I have a 24 volt trolling motor and was just wondering if anybody has mixed 1 new battery and 1 used battery. Damaging the motor would be my main concern. I also have a Minn Kota 2 bank charger. Any info out there??

it should not hurt the motor . but the older battery will shorten the life of the new one considerably. at the very least use the same battery brand and size .

As was mentioned it will not hurt the motor but will limit it"s performance dramatically. It is recommended to use batteries of the same size, type and age. Wasn't there someone selling a couple in the for sale forum?

I always replace both batteries at the same time, but this year I can't. I'm just trying to get through this summer then replace both next year. Mostly just bass fishing, not trolling. I think my best option is to buy a used battery to match my used battery instead of having 1 new and 1 used. I found a used battery for $65 but it's a 31 and mine is a 27. Will this be an issue?? As long as I can get 4 or 5 trips out of them, I don't care if the batteries are garbage at the end of the season.

Well...you won't damage your motor.

Walleye 9,

I second Jim’s answer. It will not damage your motor.

Your battery performance and reliability will be negatively affected.

When your battery shopping Magnacharge in Kingston might be worth a look. Good quality and service.

https://www.magnacharge.com/

They also carry most coin or hard to find batteries, very well priced.

They can also answer your "what if or how come" battery questions.

While we're on the subject...has any one tried the new Lithium trolling batteries ?
A couple of times a year, we take the boat up to the Temagami area and camp in the back country, so other than hauling in a generator we can't charge the batteries over night. It looks likes the Lithium might give me 3 to 4 days straight of fishing without charging. Prices are still high...but they've been coming down. Just looking for some real world feed back before laying down the cash.

You can buy an inexpensive small 2 stroke gas charger that only weighs about 40Lb. They work really well.
