Hablover and I went for a last go at pike and what a beat down it was! It had been slow the past two weekends so we had modest expecations going into the day. It started strong however and kept going until we packed it in around 1. We ended up boating 36 pike in six hours. The first few hours we had good numbers and average size, with most being low 30s. Then, we had a little lull and were stuck at 20 which was our previous best this year at 11:30. Then, a bite window opened and we caught 15 in the next hour, most of these were smaller in the 26-28" range.

Hablover displayed his superior angling skills getting 22 of the 36. At first I thought he had the hot lure, but when he broke the treble on that one and switched to the same colour I had been using, he kept the momentum going. After catching 3 in 3 casts with the new lure, I copied his technique and we starting dialing into more fish. We really had to slow the presentation down and that made the difference.

I got a normal 35" and he got a very thick 37" as the big fish for the day.

Wow...that 2nd one is huge !! I tried to get out at 2PM. Very windy...white caps right into the launch. Only one other boat was out, and they were just coming in. Advised me not to even try, as their boat was bigger than mine & they had a tough time. So.....next week.

I'm just not that big of a guy...so any fish looks big when I hold it! haha.

But you're right, although its length wasn't that long..it was definitely in a different weight class...just so fat.
