Hello.

So I finally made it out for the Lakers. I caught two the first time out and one the second time out. Second time out was on Tuesday and what a unbelievably gorgeous day that was!! First time I was in 60 FOW with spoons down 40 and 50 feet. Second time after some ramp advice I tried 40 FOW for three hours and caught nothing then went back to my first day area and depth and caught a small one. I am just fishing close to Amherst and was wondering if I needed to venture out into the main lake more. I did notice some boats heading out that way but also saw boats where I was. I am using lures recommended by Protackle so I don't think that is the problem. Trolling at 1.8-2.1 mph. Using one downrigger and a dipsy diver (broke other rigger on first outing). I am not using planer boards and wonder if that is the issue. I do have them. I am by myself so figured the dipsy would get it far enough from the boat. Also not experienced with planers
Also, I haven't been getting out before noon. Mornings better??

Anyways, I hope to make it out again. Any advice is appreciated but I do understand that I have to put my time in too.
Thanks
Glenn

You’re probably too deep. Try bringing the spoons up to 15-25’ down.

I often catch on 1.5oz and 2oz weights and 4-5 colours of lead.

They aren’t bottom oriented when the water is cold. They are often up high or suspending.

Best advise I have is invest in couple lead core set ups. I don’t break out the dipseys until late in the spring when the fish have moved way deep. The riggers can be hot some days but the lead always produces and a lot of the bigger fish seem to be cruising as BigMac says. 3 to 8 colours with boards. 10 to 15 feet floro leader. With the super clear skinny water the boat will push them out to sides. They are not as spooky as Walleyes but boards are a must. The boards help on a multi rod spread to reel the fish while still trolling. The lake is packed with them and double or triple headers are common.
Pick your days and head out into the lake. Lots of good structure to fish that is not very far.
Good luck. Hope you smack a monster.

Oh and they bite all day day this time of year. I rarely get to get out early.

I was out Tuesday as well, first time trying December Lakers, west side of Amherst Isl. What an amazing day. Took a while but around 2:00 p.m. we found them and they were aggressive. 60 to 70 ft of water, down 55 ft. dragging spoons 2 mph using downriggers, we caught 6 plus a surprise 7 lb walleye. biggest trout was just under 20 lb.

Nice!! I love to see the kids catchin. I am down to the one down rigger so may have to touch base with Protackle and take BobV75 advice get some lead core. I will see if I can use the downrigger reel and maybe rod for it. I have been there a few times and I know they won't steer me wrong. Just wish they were closer to Kingston.

Seen you out there Tuesday. Seemed to be pretty noisy in your boat. Nice work
