Bay Quinte bait n Tackle is hosting a ice fishing derby Saturday February 12th, 2022. They said weigh in is at 7pm. I questioned the procedure if we weight with picture or bump board or scale for live release. His response was bring all fish to weigh in at shop. Meaning violating transportation rules of fish and promoting killing many big fish in the process. I just suggested a better method so we can release these big fish which is crucial for repopulating. His response was if you don't like it don't buy a ticket and followed by deleting all messages on his page. I love the idea of the memorial tournament for Tyler Ballance and would have loved to went in this tournament but I cannot take place in a tournament that is promoting killing these big walleye that are key to repopulating.

I agree these should be a catch and release format but unfortunately, people can and will cheat.

I've heard of taking a bump board and making it smaller with a good photo app.

Personally, I think it should be CnR, if you choose and have a set size i.e. 15" - ??" and everyone that submits one in that size, go into a draw for 1st - 3rd place $$.

I think it's also a missed opportunity for some groups holding these, to have a measuring tape sticker made up, with sponsors labelled. I realize this would making it easier to cheat but with the suggestion above, why bother?!? I know I'd keep it on my sled for future measuring.

Like you, I would like to buy and support (charities / fundraisers) and have reluctantly done so, only to possibly win a draw prize as I'd never weigh-in a fish. Actually, I seem to not be able to catch any so that's an easy decision. :-)

Should I have supported it? Not really! But in all honesty, it was what got my buddies and I out and probably would not have otherwise that day.

The potential fish kill is too much and hopefully the thought of "prizes for biggest fish" for these will stop.

Fish Donkey is perfect for ice fishing tournaments. Make everyone use a commercially approved bump board. If they had been thinking they would of brought in the bump boards and made a but of money selling them.

I'll be entering Dew Drop Inn's 2 day tourney Feb 26-27. Top 4 fish UNDER 24 inches. Weight them then in the pan for supper. the 5+ pounders all go back to support the fishery.

Hey Paul,
with fish donkey they have a video fair which would also make it pretty hard to cheat.
