What a great weekend of fishing. Well actually not so much on Saturday but that was weather related. There was slush on the ice and at the same time dropping temperatures and with the tunnel on my sled looking an ice cube i decided to call it after a couple hours as i didn't want to be stuck out there with a frozen track. On the way home i stopped at the car wash to put the pressure washer to the underside and it got rid of some of the ice but also confirmed it was a good decision. The under side was basically one big block of ice. I put the heat on in the garage and after several hours everything was melted. However all was not lost as I did manage to ice a new PB 19.41 lb laker! Sunday was back out and the dropping temps overnight took care of the slush and the fish were biting. Went 12/17! Best day I've had out there. Lots of fish of all sizes. Most of them were in the double digit range 11-18 lbs. Its such a fantastic fishery. I know Hands had a group out and they iced lots of fish too including a pair of fish over 20lbs.

Good to here you had a great day also Dan. I got out on Thursday and Friday before the storm and Thursday was a great day 11/15 and several other missed hits. Friday slowed especially as afternoon approached. Only landed two fish each and had to work them quite a bit more.Largest Friday was my buddies at 19 and Thursdays was around the same. They sure jumped all over the tube when the spoon bite slowed! It was insane. Had one fish raise off bottom when my tube hit ten feet and nailed it at 20, they can sure cover water when they want to! I’ll send you a few pics if you want to post. I don’t think that ice will last long it was very soft and had it got warmer on Friday I would of been out of there. At least where I was.
Cheers

Super fun fish!!
Today I had the pleasure of meeting Italo Labignan and his wife Barbara this afternoon coming back to the launch from some laker fishing. They were very nice. Talked a little about tackle, ice conditions and why I'm not at work today lol. Amazing how someone who has accomplished so much and provided so much great entertainment to Canadian anglers can seem just like good relatable average people too.
This was my first season targeting ice lakers as I'm normally cautious about conditions out in these areas...they really are a whole other level of fun! Went 2 for 4 today, and marked lots more...big one lost at the hole in 15-20lb range,
They were chasing the fire tiger jiggin rap all afternoon, sometimes all the way up to site fishing levels 15-20ft. Fun times, hopefully next year brings the same ice conditions that we were so lucky to have this season!

Isnt it a blast peeking down the hole and seeing them chasing! I saw an absolute monster open wide and try to suck down a swimbait but missed. Wish I had a camera for the all the underwater chases I saw. They are a next level fun fish for sure.

On one incident I was reeling up out of 75 feet to check my bait and reeling fast. The fish was out of the cone because was not marking but noticed when I was up to about 15 feet he had chased it all the way up! looked like a interference or glitch on the graph. Bullet fast ...I stopped and looked down and there he was. tossed the rap around a few times and he chomped it

Congrats Jiggin4things yes we are very fortunate to have this great fishery on our doorsteps. I used to drive to the Muskokas and Lake Joseph for big laker action. Short season and touchn go ice along with aging has slowed me down past years so to have this so close is amazing! Perhaps the limited ice over the past 25 years has kept the fishing so good? I honestly enjoy the laker fishing more than the walleye fishing as I am for the most part catch and release so having the chance at a true giant laker in the 40 lb class is a rush. There were still a few die hards out yesterday one off Finkles and the rest spread out on the island side but not to far out from shore. This rain today should put an end to this t for the most part. Oh well bring on the soft water!
