Plan to fish Lake O for brown fish this week. I've never targeted pre-spawn Smallies before. Any hints on depths I should be fishing and what baits work at this time of year ?
Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks !

Hit shallow bays with warmer water and throw a tube. Sand bottom is a bonus

A buddy was out yesterday in an area where we would of expected to be loaded and it was a ghost town. Moved to another area and they filled the boat. Fish seem to be very concentrated in small areas so keep moving if youre not finding them

Fished out of Waupoos yesterday and today.
Targeted Smallies yesterday and Pike today.
Fierce NE wind today made getting around an adventure. Smallies were on the bite yesterday. We found some 59f water with sand, gravel rock....4 to 10 ft deep. Ned rigs and swimbaits in goby colours were working. Lots of 4 pounders and my buddy landed a PB 23 incher. Today the wind blew in 53f water and the bite slowed right down.

Here's a few of the Pike. Nothing huge... biggest were in the 28'' to 34" range. Most came from from the 8 to 12ft transition zones....rock/gravel/sand to emergent weeds. Like always with Snot Rockets anything flashy got bit (spoons, spinners, and jerkbaits), however with the cold water that got pushed into PE Bay on Saturday, they definitely preferred an occasional pause in the retrieve. Only hammer-handles remained in the skinny waters of the back bay reed beds.

Unfortunately, don't have photos of the Bass...we adhered to the rules of the C&R season and always attempted an in-water release. The Bass fishing was smokin' hot...almost all of the SM were over 19", with a bunch over 21". Never fished pre-spawn bass before, but it has to be the best bite of the year...the fish were definitely hungry after a long winter and wanting to build up some fuel reserves before they do their thing. Thank you OMNR for allowing us to get our Bass fix before the end of June.
