Here is a question. Does anyone know what the regulations are regarding private docks? For example, at Desert Lake, there are a few private docks on the roadside. Do they pay some rental fees? Otherwise how can one build something on public property and then claim to be "private"?

Just wondering.

I might suggest the possibility that the land you are referring to is 1) priveate or 2) has longstanding leases to allow the docks to some cottagers.

If you build on public land.....I believe that is called squatting.

I can understand it about those docks near cottages. But the docks I was talking about are right beside a road (and a public ramp is right there too).

i see alot of that on the trent river, I don't understand either, when their property is on the other side of the road, I guess the only way to find out would be to see the property deed. possibly these people build a dock and put "private property" in hopes that nobody will even ask or argue it, could be crown land.

check with the ministry of natusource resources usly if your building a dock whether at a cottage or near by you need a permit even if you are building a new dock or rebuilding the old one. once approved, size, matterial, location. you can go a head. my buddy had to do this. hope that helps. happy fishing, see you on the water, walleyedreamer.
