Short version: zero fish in the morning, all fish in the afternoon

Long Version:

Haven’t been out in a few days, and won’t be able to coming up, so headed out before sunrise on Thursday to usual spots off Kingston. Soon joined by other boats, we were all circling each other.

Windy and wavy, tried many approaches looking for walleyes. Boards were misbehaving, cranks high up, snap weights, all nothing. Down deep, zebra shells and weeds. Straight back, zero, etc.

Looks like the other boats had limited action, as didn’t see their nets move much.

Coming up to 11am, heard the beeping, VHF 16, was calling out Pan-Pan-Pan for Urgent assistance. Sailboat with mast down near “Cassidy Shoal” east of Kingston. That’s a bad spot, lots of boats go aground there. Only had my 2 lines to pull up, so made the 15 minute sprint at top speed over there, knowing I have enough power to pull a sailboat.

Arrived on scene, and the Coast Guard was already tied on. So headed back to Kingston. Thought I should refuel as that little speed run burned an extra $50+ in gas. (my charitable donation)

The wind and waves were dropping quickly, so been meaning to take a run out to “Charity Shoal” for the first time ever. Charity Shoal is SW of Wolfe Is., and crosses the USA border (I didn’t cross, fishing).

Arrived at the Shoal, took about 15 minutes to scout out risky and shallow areas. Lazily tossed out a couple of lines, straight back. Knowing the morning skunking, was looking for which radio station to listen to way out there.

Hit a double right away, this is the part where having put out a net would have been handy.
Did manage to get to a net, tucked away up front. Got one 27 inch in, then another good sized.

From 12:30pm to 4pm, pulled in 7 Ws, all 20 - 27 inches, and one 16 inch bass.

Couple of guys in bass boat near me, said they got a few bass. Four guys in a NY registered boat, pulled out fish for about an hour, probably didn’t have CDN licenses, they relocated to USA side.

All fish were suspended about 25 ft down, over 40 ft.
Nothing fancy, 2 crankbaits, straight back, 125 and 150ft back.

At least yesterday, Charity was good to me.

Great report. Charity is pretty cool. There’s some good “lore” on the web about its formation.

Good on you to respond to the vhf call.

Rc36,
That's a good report. Looks like good karma came your way for responding to the emergency. When you look at charity on the map sure looks like it was a meteor strike.
