Pike fishing this time of year can either be a blast, but sometimes it leaves you scratching your heads wondering what has happened in a few short days.
I've had a lot of good number days this year but sometimes I will go out with people and it just does not come together like I planned. Sometimes it does.
Got out with a buddy on Saturday - it was windy out which really limited our fishing spots. It was just a tough time fishing, as we fished from 7 - 11 I think but only managed 11. Nothing really of decent size either.
Then on Tuesday, got out with two other guys who I have been wanting to get out with. Bite was quite slow to begin with again, one spot that has been really good to me this year just did not produce at all the past two times.
While drifting over just a random spot in 14 feet of water, no structure, pretty flat, no good weeds, my buddy looks down and sees a bunch of bait sitting on the sand. And wouldn't you know it...we start to catch a bunch. Ended with 30 pike in the boat for the morning. Not much of size again but we landed a 35 and a 34 incher.
People usually laugh at me because I move around so much when I'm fishing but I really try hard searching for them. I got into a little rut of just going over the same area because I was convinced that there were pike there - but really, just covering water and even going over a random spot in my mind ended up being the difference.
