Not really a fishing spot but I'm at the base of Onderdonk Lane...hiked the ice near shore on Friday with a heavy ice chipper as my spud, and for the most part the ice seemed to have thinned to no more than 3 inches in most spots (bit of black, bit of white), with a few inches of slush on top, and 2-10 inches of snow depending on location. In a few spots that sounded hollow I went through in 2 or 3 whacks. On the way back to my place I walked out 60-75 yards from shore, checking in front of my, and about 75 yards directly out from my place my right foot went through. If I'd been a step to the right I'd have been up to my chest (I would have been fine by my phone would have been toast!). Ice in that spot was 1/2 inch at most, and I carefully made sure of my footing while I easily cleared a large hole using little more than the weight of the chipper. Even so, I could see one hut out there east of the lighthouse, and a few to the west near onderdonk point. I guess the advice to invest in a float suit might be a good idea!!
