Some may view the sketchy ice conditions this year as the glass half empty, but for some of us chasing Rainbows the glass has been half full. The mild temps and liquid precip have kept a lot of the local tribs open this winter. Steelhead have been staging the last few weeks, and the conditions (except for a few blow-out days with chocolate milk) have been great. If the trend continues, it'll be an early spawn this year..

When I went by the Gannie on Feb 12th, there must have been 50-75 fishers along the east bank, with some in the water before the big hanging tree on the east side.

Passed by on Monday, No one there.

I was there last Thursday and I guess I was a day late! She was about 4 inches of visibility but locals said past two days had been good. Stuck it out till early noon and did manage to get into three fish and my buddy got one but other than that seen one other fish caught. I usually get to jump from short rods to long rods at this time of year but sketchy ice has put a halt to the ice (for now!) seen guys out at Landon’s on the weekend with open water right behind them! Not for me anymore at my age!
