Brown Trout Lures

I am looking to target the Brown Trout on Lake Ontario and was looking for lure tips.

PS: If I do end up catching a Brown, are they good eating?

Interested in this as well.
Hoping to get out of Wellington this spring for some early season Browns and some ice-out lakers on nice days.
I remember reading some old posts from.... trannyman1? about trolling shallow in the "green" band of water near shore with crank baits and spinners.
I think Athol Bay was a good spot to start as well.

Spring Browns - Alpena Diamonds, Evil-Eye Spoons - they've worked well for us when we fished that area. Don't be scared to try crank's also

I guess I also am asking what size of spoons and crankbaits do the like. Same size as one would use for lakers?

Mark Penner from Grimsby has some good spring brown trout info too. You can check him out you tube
"Grimsby Tackle" they use a lot of stickbaits in their area. I am also hoping to get out and try for browns. Good luck if you make it out.

Small alpena's or little cleo's, the evil eyes can be large but flutter style, no weight.

The laker lures like Shoehorn spoons are too heavy for the shallow water.

By the way, Apena Diamonds haven't been made in 15-18 years and the Luhr Jensen Shoehorns are also discontinued, We bought bunches of them when we found them at swap meets or discount bins.

Silver and greens are good colours

Stickbaits like 3 to 5 inch floating Rapalas, Smithwicks, Rogues behind planer boards. In clear water, silver/green/blue/purple combinations. If the water is murky a gold/orange Rapala J-11 is a go to for me.

I like Browns brined and hot smoked. Much better tasting than a Laker.

Well I finally got out to try the Brown Trout yesterday just after lunch. Planner boards with Alpeeno Diamonds and Evel Eye spoons (already had then in my box Superdad) Put in at Finkles and thought I would try along the shore in front of Bath first. Nothing there so went to my original intended area in front of the old Celanese Plant. Nothing there as well. Now I remember guys catching them there 40 years ago (wow I'm getting old!) but I'm now thinking maybe that was just because they had a cooling water discharge. I got discouraged and didn't want to waste the day so I decided to head to the gap at Simcoe for lakers. Came around the corner and big big rollers coming in.Turned around and stuck to the north side of Amherst for the rest of the afternoon to avoid the waves. The only thing I caught was a beautiful sunset and a much needed getaway.

Any little tips on areas or structure I should try for Browns on the next trip? Maybe early because they are so shallow? In front of cement plant?
There a not a lot of days where the wind is cooperating.

We fished that north shore from Finkles to the Power Station but never had any luck for browns.

Any browns we got were caught later in the year with riggers looking for the right temps at the drop off.

Fishing the north shore of Amherst, we got fish in the 25- 25 foot range with 3 colours of lead core and spoons.

The browns we caught a while back were over Athol Bay and Wellington shores.
