those float rods are really cool looking, I watched the video, at first I thought they were "spey" fly rods (which I really want to get into
) but I see they are quite different, and they were pulling the line of the reel sideways?? I have 2 8'6" 8wt fly rods which can handle even muskie. I've heard that steelhead and salmon can make amazing runs and strip off 100 yrds of line in a matter of seconds (that's what scares me) I have an 80' wf fly line and 100yrds of backing behind it, but there's room for alot more on that one, I will probably get another 100yrd put on to be safe, since I tied lots of flies for salmon I think I'll give it a try, I'll use a light tippet so the worst thing that happens is I'll have to break off and sit and reel in all that line.
just bought a box of berkley trilene big game for that daiwa salmon rod yesterday, took a practice cast and the rod broke at the ferrule!!!!!!!!
all I know is it's very old, given to me by my wifes uncle, and it was hollow fiberglass. anyone else have problems with fibreglass rods??? I've never seen that happen to a graphite rod.
