My 1st time out fishing eye s was this past Sunday. Missed the opener due to our daughter getting married in DR on a beach. It was a great time with a group of 38 going but too many late nights and hangovers.
On Sunday buddy and I pulled into deseronto launch at 7:00 and I was shocked to see the parking lot nearly empty with only a few boat trailers parked. Thought to myself is the fishing that bad??? Started in long reach and put the boards out. The screen on the electronics didn't show many fish. After a while pulled lines and changed locations, heading way back into hay bay. Immediately saw much more fish on the screen. Picked up 3 fish but no biggies, 3lb ish. Decided to move again to try some bottom bouncers and couldn't keep the perch, silver bass and really small eyes off. Pulled the plug around noon. Water temp was 59. Looking forward to getting out again. I was really puzzled by the lack of boats out. In past years any May weekend had way more boats out.

Dan,

The times have changed and a LOT of fishers from the past aren't there and the word of tough fishing keeps people from trying.

The fish are there, just like 20 years ago when the water cleared and the old style of drifting with the wind and dragging a worm rig got fish, then it changed and people said there were no fish....

The fish changed locations and once we found them their secret was broken and we caught fish again.

I think a lot of people haven't figured them out right now.

The empty parking lot I think was a combo of things
1- reports of tough fishing, the fish are there just that those who are catching are being tight lipped about how n where.
2- Rainy weather in forecast all week, which only changed on Saturday morning to the actual not bad conditions.
3- Mothers day!
Add in the high price of gas who is willing to pulling a rig up-to 2 hours for such so-so conditions?
Just my un-educated 2 cents!

Thanks for the report Dan, now I have a question.

How did this happen?

The last time I saw her was at The Ponderosa having supper with her Dad and she was only 7-8 yrs old........
Man, I am getting old!

I noticed the same thing on the opening weekend. I counted 21 boats in the narrows at 1am back in the day there were 300 boats I heard that The old Fosters NOW (County Shores) had NO weight scale in this stretch for the Kiwanis Derby and having to boat to Belleville or Picton by water most guy's would not go that far, This alone I am pretty sure kept some of the reach and narrows anglers elsewhere.
