Brockville for walleye end of July

Hi folks,

Hoping someone can give some advice on fishing the Brockville area for walleye in early August. We’re heading there for a family trip and I’d love to try for some walleye and wondering if there are typically any of them around the sisters islands area or if we’d be better off trailering to cardinal area?!

Years ago I talked to some people who fished down there and they fished on the US side in the cirrent with big weights to get down. That's all i can recall for walleye Brockville way.

The Brockville area requires Heavy lures as depths can reach over 150 feet. Guys used to jig along "The Narrows" in the 60 ft range with some success. Would recommend Cardinal east of starch plant for jigging. It goes from just a few feet to over 50 ft in holes between there and the islands near locks Fish just out of shipping channel. I'm a D-shot guy, I use 3/8 - 1/2 oz weight with any "rubber" app 18" above them. Guys have trolled nearer shore with some success. SMB will drive you crazy hitting D-shot. My 2 cents. The 3 sisters islands got me SMB, but, hey maybe Walleye there and they just don't like me. I like the D- shot because anyone from 3 yrs to 90 yrs can drag a weight and fish will co-operate!

I fished the sisters last weekend. The current is brutal through that stretch, need really heavy trolling weights or heavy jigs. Took me a while to get the hang of it so prepare ahead for that (3+ oz trolling weights, 1-2oz jigs). The three sisters are also very close to the border - think you will need a NY fishing license if you accidentally drift over. I expected to do better than we did since it's really the only structure in that area. Cormorants sure seem to like it anyway - whew what a smell!

Thanks for the advice fellas. I’m thinking I may head to Cardinal for walleye on the Sunday and then fish SMB around Brockville the rest of the week. Any other advice would be appreciated. Thanks again!
