I was also wondering about the ice.

The Sunnanvik is a Swedish ship and is now owned and operated by CSL. Here's a picture of it in Marine Traffic breaking pretty thick ice. I'm thinking that it can do it on it's own.

Should be a good show. Thinking about grabbing a Horton's and heading down to watch.

I think that CSL ( Canada Steam Lines ) is being inconsiderate by effectively ending the ice fishing season early in the area near Bath. Couldn't they wait a week or two? The weather March 7 through 9 should re-freeze the rainy mess from March 5th. It's rare enough that there's enough ice to allow for ice fishing for lakers in the North Channel near Upper Gap and it's a shame to end the opportunity prematurely.
I understand that commerce is important and I presume that moving the ship there is legal. However, the ice fisherman are tax paying citizens too. Don't they deserve some consideration?

From https://cslships.com/vessel/sunnavik/
MV Sunnanvik is co-owned by CSL and SMT as part of the Eureka Shipping joint venture.

It looks like this got pushed to Saturday March 8th at 6am. If you click the FB link in the original post and scroll down to the comments you will see a comment from the OPP east region. I don't necessarily see this as "ending the ice fishing season early". Yes, it will stop you from accessing the gap from the Island, which is a very productive area. But lots of areas have lakers. I picture it breaking a trail in and leaving in the same trail. I could be wrong? Their is 12-15" of ice, its glued to the shorelines for now. it isn't going anywhere for a few weeks yet. a lot has to take place before the ice from Lake O starts breaking up and flowing down the river.
