Just wondering if the warm rain was enough to clear out the ice. Anyone driving by today? Thinking about those lakers.

Not sure about Finkles but I was over a Pryners Cove on the County side checking it out last night. We are getting close but not useable yet. Open water about 30-40' from the ramp. I'm going to go back Thursday after work hopefully and check it out, I'd like to hit the gap this weekend if it opens up.

If you go to NOAA COASTWATCH

GREAT LAKES ,
VIEW TRUE COLOR
VIEW MODIS
THEN PICK : LAKE ONTARIO, 2025 , MARCH
you can get a satellite image (on a clear day like March 17, 2025) that shows where open water is near upper gap

Thanks for the link, I've tried that website before and for some reason my computer is just not a fan of it. I get as far as selecting the datasets (lake, year, month) but it never loads anything more. Thanks for posting that!

I was out to Pryners Cove again last night. Not sure if the gap itself is open but you could launch a boat for sure. I'm going to give it a shot Sunday.

I live in Amherstview and I have a good view of Lower Gap (East end of Amherst Island, Simcoe Island and the mouth of Collins Bay) Thursday evening there was 80 percent ice cover This morning, there it was....GONE. A west wind blew last night and the ice went somewhere. I looked at the ramp at Finkel's this afternoon and it was clear. The NW wind had blown some ice against the north shore of Amherst Island. A change to a south wind might blow some ice back into the channel or towards the north shore. There are ice floes here and there. There are also collections of ice in small bays and inlets that may drift out into the channel. Keep your eyes open for ice floes if you go out. There was a truck with an empty boat trailer in the Finkel's ramp parking lot so its looks like someone went out. Weather looks pretty cold next week.

South wind today March 22. Everything is wide open here near Amherstview with two exceptions. The mouth of Collins Bay is blocked by ice. There is a big patch of ice at the shoreline on the north shore of Amherst Island just east of the Amherst Island ferry (near Millhaven).

Went out Sunday morning.
Cold as cold could be, was -8 when I left the launch.
Managed one 24" Laker just messing around with a spoon behind a dipsy. Marked a decent amount but only one taker. Was still -2 when I loaded up around noon.
No ice to be seen anywhere other than on my hands. Saw one other boat, they looked like they were jigging on the Amherst side near the red can on the North side.
