Quinte Fishing

Hi Guys,

This discussion board is great. My brother lives just outside of Montreal and says how lucky I am to have so much information on fishing around this region. My brother and I are planning to try for pike and bass in late October in the Bay of Quinte. We have looked into boat rentals and found a place in Hay bay (Blakewood lodge). Would this be the best place to try for pike and bass? Any ideas where in the bay I may get them. I'm thinking of ordering one of those Hot Spot Maps for the bay too. Are they useful?

I haven't had a peek at the hotspot maps yet, I can help you if you are looking for smallmouth in rivers, but that's about it, I like your forum name by the way, bowfin, those fish are the pitbulls of freshwater fish. I've never caught one, but I've heard some funny stories about them.

Blakewoods would put you about a mile and a half from Ram Is, where there should be lots of bass and pike around the dropoffs and edges of the dying weedbeds.

If you went east from Blakewoods and headed to the flats and the east end of Hay Bay, there are lots of opportunites for bass and pike up there.

Thanks for the info Superdad and Hoser. I had the pleasure of working with bowfins when I did my Master's thesis at Queen's U. I gained a tremendous respect for these air breathing fish. The are tough S.O.B.'s. I have never caught one on a line either but I bet it would be a treat!

I've only seen one so far, was wading in some weeds in the bay, he was down by the edge of the weedbed, had a giant dot near his tail so I'm assuming that one was a male, had his mouth open slightly with teeth showing, hehehe I got out of the water right then.
If you are fishing here in late october you should do pretty well, that's when the shore anglers start doing okay with walleye and pike as well. last year casting from shore every time I went I got a few walleye, no keepers though, although my friend got one over 25".
Does anyone here have one of those hotspots map and know if it counts as a good nautical map also?? I'm thinking of getting one too.
