Observations Oct 6-8-9-10

Was out to Hay Bay to move my boat and take the dock out Thurs afternoon, everyone was on shore with the boats ready for storage. Fishing was TOUGH and those from USA were anxious to get the show on on the road. Moved the boat and removed the dock til next May.

Arr'd Sat AM and everyone was standing around talking and no one fishing, save for one boat - Holy Toledo out there in the pounding wind and waves. They arr'd back and it was ROUGH over by the ferry.

Sunday came and the wind was still blowing from the NE and the radio was saying small craft warning on the big lake - 2 to 3 meter waves. Stay Ashore. People getting their trailers ready for winter. Some folks left for USA on the quiet day before the holiday.

Some fisher (Holy Toledo) went out to battle the elements and returned after five hours hitting a nice 28 inch male tipping in at 9.5 lbs. Nice fish but what a day.

We thought we might go out Monday AM, but it was foggy and drizzly and we thought - beans on that!!! Lets get the trailer winterized. Accomplished that chore and departed for Kingston.

Will be back out to fish next weekend, maybe they'll be taking a little more readily.

Great work superdad. Alway informative.
I'd give $10 to see what a black and purple RAC spoon would do at 20-30' down hitting point to point from Young's to Shermans.
It was kinda rough on Sturgeon lake this weekend too. But I managed 1 pickerel a handful of smallies (for hoser

)and sent my buddy from Wellers Bay home with a video of his muskie. Oh ya from 1800-2100hrs. :wink:

I've pickerel envy though ours was 3lbs. :oops:

Probably a good call. Get the housework done and outta the way so nothing can hold you back when tis time to go fishin. I heard froma fella that out by the Gap (cressy pt.) area that the eyes are starting to respond.

Thanks Super Dad for the updates. Will be heading to the bay soon. With this gas thing it sure helps us retired guys out on those wasted trips.

My fishing excursion on the other side of the county was a wash. Like you said Superdad, the NE wind was a bugger. We were in Smiths Bay which is a lot more sheltered than where you were and we were getting tossed everywhere. Tried to hide from the waves behind the marina and other places but the water is so low and the weeds are choking everything this year. It was impossible to troll or cast, even with our Uzeks running a couple of feet down. Didn't even try to get out my planer board.
Fortunately we caught an 18 lb turkey on a Walley Diver and we had that Sunday for dinner.

On a different note, my son caught two Gobies in his minnow trap. I reported it to the invasive species web site but I can't help but think "it's too late already". How bad are they in Lake Ontario now?

Ewbie and I will be down next weekend for our one and only walleye trip. We were wondering where in Picton and area we can pick up the "Hotspot map". Merland Park?

A friend once said "I must have $500+ worth of lures in that box, but only use about three of them". Brother I hear that.

Those where some great looking bass steve. Super pics. by all you men. I'm pinching the pennies and thinking about towing the good ship wobbly pop down to give some fish a toothache soon.

And by the sound of it, I’d best be sure I have all my “safety kit” and whistle. :wink:

Still lonely out at Shermans this morning and again this evening. No other fisher-folk and no fish. Marked several holding at 15-20 ft in 35-40 ft of water just off the point, but they wouldn't take.

Wind picked up again this evening and veered to due East. No fun. Made for a tough slog back up to the dock (North Shore, Hay Bay).

I plan to be out again tomorrow, but it looks like the weather won't start to play nice until Friday.

This evening my surface temperature reading was down to 58F (14.4C) for the first time this Fall... she's getting there.

Side note... I watched a hundred or so Cormorants feed on a school of something or other around Ram Island for an hour yesterday afternoon. Something's driving the baitfish... ;-)
