Hey guys (and gals),
I am new to this board, but I’ve read a bunch of the information posted. Just wondering if you might be able to help out.
Here are my details:
I have never fished the Bay of Quinte or Hay Bay area. I am a regular in the Kawarthas (Pigeon, Bald Lakes and Rice). I have a 15" aluminum boat with a 30 hp outboard. I trailer the boat with a small car, so really steep and slippery ramps are a no go. I mostly fish for Musky in the fall. I have no downriggers.
I have been having zero luck in the Kawarthas lately and I'm thinking of broadening my horizon.
Here are my questions:
1. What is the musky action like in this area, currently and historically?
2. What area would be safe to try, given my little boat and lack of experience in the area?
3. What would be the closest boat launch/town to get to that area?
4. For the fishing regs, I assume this location is Division 8 and maybe 9, am I right?
5. And where can I find a 70lb 60” musky? -> just kidding ;-)

Thanks in advance,
pooch

Pooch,
The guy in this area to answer your questions is Stacey at http://www.protacklemuskyshop.com/ His shop is here in Belleville area. Historically speaking, I have heard the area at Glenora Ferry and Aldophus Reach was a traditional Musky hotspot. Infact the fisheries station got a call from a resident in that area, who was calling to report a dead washed up musky on his shoreline. The MNR came and picked it up. I can't remember exact weight but I think in the area of 50lbs. Hope this helps

I am in the same boat too Pooch ..lol. except I am not specifically after musky. I fished the bay about 5 years ago and I can remember launching from a ramp that was just east of Belville close to a river and Pt. Anne???? Ramp was pretty good but I have no clue if the fishing is any good in this area at this time of year. I have heard that the big eyes are caught at night in November and I would love to try this. A little leary of where to launch etc since I don't know the water very well... so any suggestions might give me the confidence to give it a shot.

Good luck !

Finga,

The best place to be is Picton Bay area. The ramp at Picton habour is excellent and it is lite at night. Another bonus is the geography at that end. With the high bluff sides it seems to be less nasty to fish if it's windy. There are always others fishing in the area at night so make sure your boat marker lights are working.

Doe anyone know if the "HotSpots" maps are any good? I would be using it for depths, not spots.
Also, where would you get one? the above link is dead.

thanks,
pooch

Get an hydrographic MAP. These will have everything marked and all depths.

http://www.charts.gc.ca/chs/en/

Map so the Bay of Qunite include:

2007 (Belleville to the Narrows) and 2006 (Narrows to Picton to Lake Ontario)

Thanks for the suggestions Dan. I will keep checking the board to see when the bite's on and head up, hopefully the weather will co-operate.
Tight lines!

Thanks Dan.
Sounds like I should try this Picton Bay area. Are musky caught here?, or is this mostly a walleye area.
I tried to get a hold of Stacey, but he hasn't replied back. Maybe I'll just "wing-it" on the Moira river.

Oh well,
pooch
