I just wanted to say thank you to the many great people I spoke with on the water this opening weekend. We are walleye fisherman from the Potsdam NY area and really enjoyed the hospitality and great fishing this opening weekend. I read the website all the time and wanted to provide some information on what worked for us this opening weekend. I do not mean to be long winded but I use this website all of the time and just want to contribute back what I can.

We put in at Shermans about 6:30 Saturday morning. We immediately went up to the bay by the mouth of the Napanee (Mohawk Bay I think?). We first tried drifting and jig fishing with Berkley Power Worms - landed 2 fish, nothing big. We started to troll next with various lures and landed 2 fish about same sizes. After about 5 hours we switched to Larry Swan's Chartreuse Uzick spinners on fireline with a 4 foot fluorocarbon leader & 3/8 bullet sinker above the leader. It stayed hot for the entire day and all the next day. We were trolling with the 9.9 on Saturday but switched on Sunday to the electric trolling motor and it seemed to improve our luck. The trolling speed seemed to be very critical and if we maintained 1.3 to 1.5 MPH the action was excellent but when we got faster or slower we lost the bite. We use a Moor Kingfish that I installed last year which allows me to very accurately maintain trolling speed - I highly recommend this unit. We ended up catching 16 walleye total on Saturday and 23 walleye on Sunday and the Uzick was awesome (all but 2 were keeper size & nothing big). Also caught 5 sheepshead, two bass, two northern and many perch. We are 100% catch and release so they are all still there to get bigger. We were on the water 13 hours Saturday and 10 on Sunday (got lazy and slept in).

First a HUGE THANK YOU LARRY SWAN - great product!!! Also, thank you to LARRY & JOANN at the PERFECT VUE. We booked late so they were full but were very helpful to us and a place I plan on spending some time at in the future (got to take the Grandson fishing). You guys and gals were great hosts at BOQ this weekend and this continues to be one of the best fishing websites I have seen!!! We had a great time, great fishing, but no tournament winner or tagged fish. Congratulations to this years winners and we will try to win it again next year!!!

Fishin;

You can get the Uzick spinners from Larry Swan (Red Swan Tackle) at 1(613) 820-4634 0r by email at larryswan@hotmail.com. He is great guy to do business with and has a great product.

I use them for walleye in BOQ, Lake Ontario, St, Lawrence River and behind my house on my small river. I have played around with rigging them and have had the best luck rigging them exactly as Larry suggests. You can see his recommened rigging at www.geocities.com/swanny4019/my_page.html

Opening weekend I was using chartreuse & silver Uzick, a chartreuse curly tail with a silver reflective tail.

Good luck and great fishing...
