Laker John, my Dad (Bert) and I arr'd a little late on Friday night at Bayview Resort to see who was all in camp and ready for Saturday.

We heard to boats heading out at 0001 - Sat AM and thought - WHY?????

Later during the darkness the pitter patter of raindrops falling on the roof announced a wet and damp day.

We were out to fish after a hearty breakfast, sandwiches made for lunch and off the the water at 0745. Saw the OPP boat on Thompsons PT with a boat on the shore. Wondered it was awfully early for checking boats.

Got to the fishing grounds at 0815 and handed Bert the rod with a Taildancer and said "Let out a 100 feet", Turned my back to get my lure ready and heard the Magic words- "Fish ON"

Holy Cow, there was a fish jumping at the end of the line. Nice and easy and scoop with the net - BAM. First fish in under 50 seconds.

She was a beauty - I'll bet a lot of Bass Anglers would like her in July.

A quick photo and an equally qucik release. What a start.

Trolled further along and Laker John hit a nice 5 - 6 lb Pike on an upslope.

A little further down the shore - Fish on Again- Laker reeled in a nice 27 incher. Our first pass down the run and we had three fish. Best opening so far.

BUT, wait there's more...........

Next pass over the area, Superdad had a strike and pulled in a nice 26 incher. Things are great. Next run over the spot and Bert hits a 26 inch walleye. Man o Man what a day.

BUT it gets better.

Close to 1500 the reel sings again in the rod holder and Superdad lands another 27 inch walleye- we've got a limit of fish - so we release the 27 incher.

Back to Bayview at 1800 with smiles as big as Texas - three really happy amigos.

Here's the results:

We ended up fishing there for the whole day making about ten runs over the area we were targeting and landing 6 fish. Our BEST opening day.

Sunday, saw the three amigos head back to the fishing grounds and we trolled from 0745 to 1600. Bert landed another 27 incher and Superdad landed a 30 incher. (maybe we should have gone to PIcton to sign in BUT we figured it wouldn't be big enough - D'OH)

Back to Bayview at 1715 and everyone had disappeared on their way home.

We concluded with a total of 6 walleyes (26 to 30 inches) a nice pike and a 4.5-5.0 lb SM Bass.

Our BEST opening weekend.

Oh, Did I mention we said the Rapala Prayer a LOT  The old favourite of some and now one of our favourites too - the HJ.

The fishing grounds were east of the ferry.

It was VERY successful weekend, didn't many on the water, guess everyone was in Hay Bay.

The other results we heard of from the Byaview Resort crowd was that the fishing was good and everyone was getting fish in all areas, the Flats, Ram Is, and Perfect Vue.

The crappy weather and the cost of gas made it seem as though there were fewer boats out. That was our impression, yet, Dan Elliott says there were more anglers this year than last. They must be fishing the west end of Quinte.

It was a good weekend, lots of fish, lots of food, lots of good drink - Perfect.

C U on the water.

Superdad;

Congratualtions on some very nice fish and for another awesome fishing report. I always look forward to reading your reports and getting ideas from the detailed information provided. Will be returning to BOQ again this year (at least 1 or 2 times) and hopefully I will meet you one of these trips.

Keep the good informational reports coming...

Why, well, we caught 27 between 5 guys, thats why, but we weren't the boats heading out you heard though, but we were out then. One of the guys held 7th until Sunday morning, but eventually got bumped right out of the top ten, tough break. I think the first night is very important, after that, the boat pressure starts to effect the fishing. Nonetheless, nice outing you guys had, nice going.

Nice work, David!

Great sized fish for opening day, eh?

Just to let you know I'm watching from California. Heading up El Cap in a couple days for about a week.

Woo-hoo! Pass the pitons!
