Spending a few days at Hay Bay was most refreshing and offered a chance to try some areas that we haven't tried this year.

On Wednesday, the 7th, went out to fish with Ohio Joe (his boat is undergoing a chance in fishfinders and is one shore), we decided to give the weed beds at the Old Church a go.

To summarize the three hours fishing: We had four fish in the first hour and ended up catching six walleyes and a 6lb Northern.

All the fish were caught on Orange and Chartruese Uzick spinners.

We had our success between 9.5' and 13.0' - if you're not having problems with the weeds - you'll probably not catch any fish.

There were boats trolling in the 15-20 foot range and they weren't getting anything, other boats trolling close the the edges and thru the weeds were getting fish.

It's the same at the east end of Hay Bay with the weeds up there.

Hope that helps everyone for the weekend.

Stay Tuned

Superdad,
Just to add to your point about the weeds. The top 3 places at the Quinte Fishing Series Tournament held out of Deseronto a few weeks back were all teams fishing weeds. 2 of the teams were rip-jigging and one was casting cranks just over the tops of weeds. Big fish of the "T", a 9lber.,was caught in the weeds too.

Well, I'd hate for the secret to get out that walleye love weeds too! Some of my best early summer success comes from working weed edges and insome of my Kawartha spots, I'm plunking power worms right in the pockets for 'em. I was tossin' spinnerbaits in Brighton Bay a couple weeks ago for pike and managed 2 nice walleye that were cruising the weedbed What a treat!
