Second Win in 2006 for Morris and Nix!!

After winning the opening walleye tournament of the 2006 Quinte Fishing
Series season, Madoc's Shelly Morris and Steve Nix of Stirling showed they
can also catch bass and took the top prize in the August 6th bass tournament
in Deseronto. With many teams finding the fishing tough due to strong
south-west winds, these two anglers weighed in a great weight of 22.00 lbs
outweighing their nearest competitor by almost 3.5 lbs.! On stage Shelly
said," We had a great day! Steve found a spot in prefishing that we thought
had some good fish and we were still able to fish it today." Steve added,"
I got a 4.5 lb. fish out of this spot on Thursday prefishing and left and
when we went there today it had 4 or 5 good fish on it - we lucked out !"
For their win, Shelly and Steve took home $2,400.00 as well as gift
certificates from Mark's Work Warehouse, a $50.00 gift certificate from
Kelsey's/Montana's(Belleville) and Tournament Champion hats and medallions
from the Series.
Coming in second place out of the 53 boat field were Belleville's Mike
and Carl Chesterton. This father/son team weighed in 18.70 lbs. and
received $1,700.00 for their efforts and third spot went to the husband and
wife team of Mike and Mary Nabulsi, owners of Bass Magnet Lures, and they
took home $1,100.00 for their weight of 17.95 lbs. With 17.75 lbs,
Napanee's Grant Elliott and Karl Neumayer claimed $700.00 for their fourth
place finish and Andy and Darcy Asselstine, last years "Team of the Year"
runners -up, took home $450.00 for their fifth place weight of 17.55 lbs.
Brockville's Michael Joron and Ken Bugden finished in sixth spot with a
weight of 17.45 lbs and received $300.00 with the final cheque for $150.00
and seventh place going to Jamie Coe and Chris Haug from Trenton for their
weight of 16.60 lbs.
The "Bass Magnet Lures" Big Fish Award went to the winners, Morris and
Nix, who had a largemouth of 5.10 lbs. In their great winning bag and they
received an additional $1,060.00 in cash as well as $150.00 in quality soft
plastic baits compliments of Mike and Mary at Bass Magnet Lures and Big Fish
plaque.
The Belleville Sport and Lawn "115 H.P. and Under Award" for the top
placed team using an engine 115 H.P. or less, went to the sixth place team,
Michael Joron and Ken Bugden. For their weight of 17.45 lbs., they received
an extra $150.00 as well as two spools of Power Pro quality fishing line and
hats thanks to Barry at Red Wing Tackle in Ajax.
"This season has been just amazing thus far," stated tournament director
Pete Thompson. "All tournament entries are up from last year and the
winning weights just keep going up! It's great to see new teams joining us
each tournament and the feedback from anglers has been very positive which
is very encouraging for our committee members."
The next tournament for the Series is on August 27th in Trenton and the
tournament site will be on the east side of the river above the downtown
bridge. Anglers are reminded that entries must be postmarked at least one
(1) week prior to the event and further info can be obtained from Thompson
at 613-967-1024 or Rick Somerville, weigh master, at 613-968-7428.

I note yet again (playfully gloating) that a Napanee family name is mentioned in the winners circle.

I watch many things relating to the outdoors, given my work and am always happy to see someone from my area do well in many areas of fishing or the outdoors. As much as I recognize that work, finances blend in with ones ability to participate with fishing competitions, I seem to routinely see the one gentlemans name from Napanee. This makes me smile, given that I know just how many people growing up by the river and bay in the Napanee area fish, and (jab) I have long held the belief that the quality of angler growing up is vastly underrated.

Just a comment from a proud Bay of Quinte resident that works far away.
