I'm new to this type of trolling and have heard so much about it from other on this board and from the previous years being on the water and talking to people at the ramp that I had to try it to improve my luck.. Went to BPS and bought the Diawa Accutroll and a 7.5 foor rod to match with 18 lbs LC line..

Now what ?? How do I rig this up ?? What swivels do I need or do I have to add a mono leader to this ?? Any help and or advice to set me up would be greatly appreciated..

Thanks,
Tiz

Tiz, if you get a copy of Precision Trolling the depths the lures will achieve are done with 10# Trilene.
This makes calculations much easier. Heavier line such as the 18# that you have on your Daiwa will keep the lures higher in the water column. Try using the 10# to make things easier. If you are uncomfortable using light line, try 12# or something of the same diameter as was used for the dive curves achieved in the Trolling book.
Another little tip I do is photocopy a page of lures like a Bomber #25 and laminate it and put it in my Plano box. This way you won't have to keep referring back to the book.

I'll assume you're talking leadcore-love it!

I rig it two ways: segemented or all lead (always with a florocarbon or mono leader)

Segmented is when you have mono and/or braid backing to some leadcore to mono/braid then to leadcore...you get it. I like braid over mono because like the leadcore it is no stretch and you can feel the lure, the bottom...everything. Advantages over straight leadcore is you can clip to planer boards using the braid or mono portion and you will have a greater amount of line out(behind boat) to reach depth compared to straight leadcore.

Straight leadcore is some backing to leadcore to a leader and you'll need a large reel to hold a lot of lead. Advantage: deeper with less line out and less knots than segmented.

Leadcore is very speed sensitive- slower=deeper, faster=higher, speed up a bit and up it goes over that bump...

I use a flourocarbon leader for stealth, abrasion resistance and shock absorbtion. I prefer a leader the same length as the rod I'm using, that way the swivel stays out of the rod.

VERY IMPORTANT: before tying the leadcore remove the lead center out of the line for the portion you'll use for the knot!!! (I use uni knots for everything).

I use it more than I thought I would- you can get to the target depth fast without having to change lure or snap weight...see the arc on the sonar, reel in to rise or let line out to dive. You can get a tiny lure or shallow diver way down where it's never been seen before.

Sorry if babbled on and on I just got back from the BOQ and am half asleep. Fished 11am to dark, in first 20 minutes got 6 and 9 lbrs then nothing. reef runner off board in front of cement plant. Not on lead!

I hope you're talking leadcore.

Good tips Hooked UP.
We use LC for early salmon with great success.
We have two setups, 1 with 5 colors and 1 with 2 colors.

For connecting the Leader and backing with the LC check out the following posting.
