I always thought walleye heavier than 8lbs can only be found in BoQ...
To my surprise 9lbs walleye can be caught in Rice Lake~!

I caught this "local monster" on Sunday when it was one of the roughest day in Rice Lake. Wind was crazy with waves around 1m high. I was fishing from shore which the waves and wind are pounding towards the shoreline. I was using jig and grub, jigging VERY SLOWLY. When this fish hit, I thought I just hooked a bunch of sea weeds, but I remembered that sea weeds can't move....... After we netted the "baby", I found out that my hook was all out of shape; if I had to fight the walleye 1 more minute, I would have lost it.

This 9lbs walleye is currently swimming happily somewhere in Rice Lake

Feel free to click on my signature to check out some of our catches :)

One lake's trophy is another bay's slightly-below-average. Nice catch!

It reminds me of the time this dude fishing a salmon tournament in Lake Erie, and produced a winning chinook in the high 20's. I think he won a boat and trailer, or maybe a truck or something. So the science geeks took the fish, dissected it, and ran a few little tests. Seems there were chemicals in the fish that are only present in Lake Ontario, and not in Lake Erie. For sure the guy had to give the prize back, but I don't know if they pressed criminal charges or not.

P.S. Please let me know if there are any Rice Lake walleye tournaments coming up in the next few weeks...
