Hey guys,

Nothing to brag about, I'm begging: Anyone get out? Anything happening?

I'm hoping to get out with my dad either Wednesday or Friday this week, depending on weather and wind. Environment Canada is talking about big time snow squalls in the Picton - Sandbanks area the next day or two, with as much as 10-15 cm coming down.

Sheesh.

Hey all,

My cousin and I ventured out both days on the weekend. You can either think of us as dedicated or just plain crazy. Sat morn we launched just before the sun came up. We headed from Deseronto to Long Reach. I was driving and got soaked as the spray blew back over the boat. I had some ice build up on my pants. Once into the reach it wasn't that bad. We made it to Thompsons point and the rollers weren't too bad. As the hours went on they got worse though. According to the weather network the opposite was supposed to happen but oh well. I finally hooked a smaller fish (about 3 lbs) on a purple (flakey doctor) spoonbill super rogue. After that fish, we pulled of the point because of the winds. We headed back to Catalaque shoal. We had a few hits and lost one fish. We marked quite a few fish around the shoal. Winds got pretty bad even in the reach so we called it a day.

Next morning we had a bit of a late start. My head was a tad bit sore from the night before. (xbox and beer) We tried Thompsons and the shoal but got skunked. Winds weren't as bad sunday.

This sunday looks like it might be a decent day to hit the water again. I guess we'll see.

Keep ya posted

It is a fine line between "dedicated" and "just plain crazy" - a line I have crossed and re-crossed many times over the years! The likelihood of crossing said line is usually proportional to the discomfort one experiences both at work and in one's marriage. While I am self-un-employed, the job has never been that much of a problem. However before my Post-Divorce Renaissance began, I used to make some dire fishing trips indeed. Bobbing around Lake Ontario at night in January in a 15-foot cartopper in -25C temps off the Pickering nuclear station comes to mind...

Nowadays, I am fortunate to be able to choose when to fish, and when not to fish. Tomorrow and last weekend are examples of the latter. I hope to get out Friday with my dad.

Any other idiots [er, um, Dedicated Hardmen] get out on the weekend, or this week yet?

we were out on sunday.rain/sleet/snow/wind and lots of walleye. ended up going 20 for 22 with 13lbs as the big fish and 3 double headers. only 3 other boats fishing near us as the weather was pretty bad but the fishing was great.
all fish came trolling out in deeper water with no specific lure as the hot bite.

Not quite cold enough to do your fish the Reach/ice fish Hay Bay scenario yet eh? There's a slim chance Joanne and I may be up this weekend if the winds die down a bit. In any case, I look forward to your and Jackson's kick arse reports as always. Good luck and be safe.

cheers
Ken

We were up there from Dec 2 - 5, only managed 2 fish. I couldn't believe how muddy the bay was from Fridays storm though, wow! Didn't put much time on the water cuz my ol man was bent that we wouldn't catch anything in water as it was, I guess he isn't as hard core as he used to be. :( Oh well.
Good luck to those that will have a chance to get out there still, cuz they are there, and in numbers.
