Headed out with my dad Monday morning from the launch ramp at Sherman's Point armed with 4 dozen of Skevy's best minnows and my brand new silver Sidewinder (among other walleye weapons) -- thanks to Ron for the recommendation.

Hit the ice at 7:30am, surpised to see that there were about a dozen other people doing the same thing on a Monday morning.

Drilled our first holes in about 12 - 15 feet of water and spent about 45 minutes there -- one big fat perch.

We could see (and hear) other people landing fish further out so we gathered our stuff and ventured on.

Ended up fishing in about 20 - 22ft of water and between 8:30am and 12:30pm managed to get 4 fish up on the ice -- 6lbs 14oz, 7lbs 2oz, one 10lbs plus, one in the 4 - 5lb range (my digit scale froze up after a while). Sorry, we both forgot our camera so I have no pix, but we'll be sure to pack one next time and post them here.

Plus we lost two other nice walleyes, one at the hole, another one we didn't see.

All fish caught on silver sidewinder with a minnow.

This was only our second-ever ice fishing experience and, needless to say, we left very satisfied. Much better than a another day at work.

Hoping to get back out once more before the season closes.

Have fun, stay safe.

Its somewhat surprising that fish weighing that much did not exceed 24 7/8 inches!

I'm not sure I like Tomcat's insinuation, but I guess I understand his concern so I will clarify -- all the fish that made our outing so great on Monday are happily back under the ice to fight another day.

i also understand peoples concern about keeping fish out of the slot size.
but no where in bill's fan's post did he say he state that he kept the fish he caught. so i dont feel he should have to clarify to some one who sound's a bit jealous of the day him and his father spent on the ice.

I appreciate very much that you recognized that my post was a statement of concern rather than an insinuation. The news that they all went back rather than just a couple of them was outstanding. Bravo! Thanks for taking the time to respond.

from reading another post somewhere, I was under the impression that although there is a slot size in the regulations it isnt enforced at all this year on BOQ.

Now before someone jumps all over me for not knowing what Im allowed to keep, I dont catch many fish at all and those that I do catch I put back. I think in all the years that I've been fishing I've kept 2 maybe 3 fish.

Regarding slot size on Quinte... In the 2005/2006 version of the regs, it states that you may keep zero walleye between 19"and 25" and only 1 over 25" long. Right before opening day in 2005, they changed the regs to eliminate the slot size restrictions. The regs were ammended to allow anglers to keep 1 fish over 25". So, as of spring 2005 you are allowed to keep 4 fish with only 1 being over 25" long. The 2007 regulations are behind schedule and anglers have been told to abide by the 2005/2006 regs... Including ammendmants. In a nutshell, the rules are the same as last year.
But... If you are at all unsure, don't take my word for it. Go to the MNR website and look it up for yourself.

Here's a link to the MNR's fishing regulations. I can't find a link to the Quinte ammendmant. I'm sure it's there, you just gotta do some searching.

I have a copy of the MNR announcement, which removed the slot, posted here on the website under the MNR Reports link at the top of the board. Here's the link. http://www.quintefishing.com/MNRslotRemoval.htm
