Quinte Fishing

Hey folks I have a question, Is there anyone local to belleville that does taxidermy on fish? I caught a 9lb 10 oz walleye back on bob's lake and want to get her mounted seeing as how thats the largest walleye I've got on a back lake.

What should one expect to pay per inch?

Any help is appreciated.

no I don't know where you should take it, but thats the price I've heard! Thats a nice walleye though coming out of a northern lake, how long is it!

I had a 12 lber done at a place just north of tweed on hwy 7. For the life of me I can't remember the name of it but you take 37 through Tweed until you hit hwy 7, turn left onto #7 and he is on the left hand about 1 km. He charges 10$/inch. The fish I caught was 30 inches so it costed me 300$. Hope this helps. Actually I think the name might be Vogels. By the way he did an excellent job and the price included the drift wood as well.

You might want to look up Ron Reynolds that I believe is in Adophustown. He has done some outstanding work, that may seem expensive.... but you get a great job. There was also a gentleman with the last name of I believe Montgomery and another named St.Amond that were located just outside of Napanee.

That said, I would suggest that you look at a few samples of anyones work. Replica's are becoming more and more common with a photo or knowledge about the colouration of your walleye paying big dividends in the presentation of the final product. Good luck.

don, replica's at quinte are not the easiest to get.

i've enquired about two mounts for my two biggest fish, and advanced taxidermy said i was out of luck because my fish were too short and fat. they didn't have a mold available for that size of fish.

however, if you CAN get one done, DO IT!

Can you tell me where you were fishing? I'm hoping to get there this weekend and I think it's not until the weekend after that it closes?

There is a business opportunity for someone... Get into the business of making molds for the "out of shape" so to speak, pigs that come from Quinte.....

well, in both of my fish's cases, they said had i brought the SKIN mount in to be done, they would have offered me a substancial discount on the skin mount, if they could use my fish as a mold.

my two biggest fish have been:

28.5 x 21

and

29.75 x 22.5

Both were 14 plus pounds.....

Imagine trying to tell a walleye fisherman who doesn't know the BoQ that you caught two 14 plus pound walleye, and NEITHER of them were over 30".

Someday, sooner or later.. some one is gonna have to sacrifice a couple of these pigs to get molds made.... prolly not gonna be me... k well maybe if I break the 16 lb mark...

I totally believe you being called a Liar.. lol... I grew up on Quinte.. You and I are both adults, so we can easily shrug off being called a liar..

But try being a "kid" say in high school, or even younger, and telling some "old timers" the weight and dimensions of your fish... lol.. their just like.. "well young lad, great lookin fish for sure, but there is no way it can weigh that much"...lol..

When I was younger I would get so pissed off at people not believing me about my fish...

Now I just laugh it off.... if they only knew.......

My hunch is that someone like Reynolds has had something done to make a replica. Quinte is just too high a profile fishery to not have someone pay to have had it done already. The operation is Adoplustown is best known in the larger US markets.

Advanced Taxidermy does do some outstanding work. Excellent choice...and a surprise that they would not have a mold on hand for your fish. Take a peek at Reynolds work if you ever get a chance as he is or was an artisan of equally famous stature....better known south of the Canadian border.

I saw a number of years ago an outstanding replica of the famous Nipigon brookie done by Reynolds, that was quite a site to behold. I understand that a contender has finally emerged.....from Manitoba, that was caught and released last fall.

I putz round here catching sturgeon, a few salmon, small trout and the odd halibut when I get to fish on the ocean when working here. I would like to have a replica of a Quinte walleye. I suppose something in the 11-12 pound range as that has been my personal best (1 each). The only mount I have is a lake run brown trout taken from Wilmots Creek many years ago. I did catch a few unique strains of trout that I would love to have something to do justice. Brookie of 5+, redband, golden and a dwarf rainbow from the upper Athabasca....nothing gargantuan but all very neat to see the various colors, etc.
