Perch Fishing

Im wondering if someone can help me out.
The way I am understanding it is that if I went perch fishing on Big Bay it would be legal until 1 April. Perch fishing being : 4lb mono on the reels, rigged with small gold truturn hooks above a 1/4 oz bank sinker, and no gaffs, walleye jigs, spoons, or anything having to do with walleye fishing in my possession. And if did start to catch the occasional walleye, to pick up and move.
Any other suggestions to follow, Im thinking about doing a perch trip.

Yes perch is open year round as long as you are targetting perch like you said with the light line and small jigs you will be fine.

Actually there is no closed season on perch or crappie on the bay including big bay. So that means you can fish perch/crappie year round.
As you mentioned if you catch an eye its time to pick up and relocate to a different hole. Good luck findn them jumbos

Why would you have to relocate if you catch a walleye?
If you're out there targeting a specific species and you happen to catch another I don't think that justifies moving as long as you release the fish. This seems to be such a fine line. It's very hard to fish for something when another species is "out of season"
The lake that my cottage is on is stocked with splake. It also has a healthy pop of bass. In the spring when I'm fishing for splake in the shallows I catch a large number of bass. I feel bad for catching them because I know they're on their nests. BUT splake is open....It's a tough call.

In a conversation I had with a CO about the subject, he said if he witnessed an angler ice fishing for perch but was catching incidental walleye he said they have to move locations. Otherwise he would consider laying charges for catching walleye out of season.
