Hi Everyone, I hope everyone is ready for this weekend. just a survey of how many people troll versus jig opening weekend? It will be jig for me this weekend. Good luck out there and be safe. There always seems to be a few people getting in trouble opening weekend.

Sheldon,
I had a quick peek at the Moira river dowwntown Belleville on the foot bridge to see if I could see any eyes still spawning. There were still some fish there. The biggest I saw looked to be about 5-6lbs and lots of small jacks. No big hens. I think my crew will probably start out jigging and then maybe do a troll.

Bringing the my buddies bass boat this year so we are jigging. Maybe gets some trolling time in with the electric.

Think we'll follow the song and do some trolling:

Keep those lures a trollin', keep that boat a-movin'-- Fish on!
Through rain and wind and weather, trolling's altogether
The quickest way to catch any fish around.
Tie em on! Throw `em out! Set `em down! Look around!
Grab the rod! Set the hook!-- Fish on!
da-da-da, da-da-da, da-da-da, da-da-da, da-da-da, da, da, da --Fish on!

Use the "Rawhide tune" for this song

Lots of luck to all and remember PLAY SAFE.

If you decide to troll for fish spread out on a flat and are using in-line boards, please keep them tight to the boat. I often shake my head on Quinte when I see boats running boards 100 plus feet out to the side of the boat while trolling through jiggers. No need to run boards out far with all the boat traffic...I often only have mine 35 feet out to the side as the fish move away from the path and noise of the motor they will see your bait.

Good luck to all and be safe out on the water...

I love to jig and imagine I am in the minority.

From what I have observed over the years, if I was really interested in cracking the top 10 in say a tournament, I would either selectively use planer boards out towards the big pond, or target some very specific shoreline areas at night. Both are something I would not suggest is not for the average angler if one is not experienced with planer boards, or is not comfortable with safe boating/fishing at night.

Alas, I just like to have fun with it, and although I get some unique insites, I love to jig at every chance....lol
