I was told that fishing is better on full moons or no moons versus quarter moons. Is this true? Is this weekend the best or second best weekend of the month with only 0.8% of the moon showing? I think this is a bunch of hoop-la myself. Rain, thunderstorm or dead heat seems to be more of a factor in my books. Anybody moon followers out there?

I think that the weather trumps the moon cycles..........but I also don't disclose the cycle either and do see the pattern when things change up for sure.

I have good luck on any full moon.... but with the pressure drop the last couple days I think that is more of a influence. Just my opinion.

Grandpa and Dad always said to fish on the rise of the moon. The quote full moon full fish , to late and the drop was slow as well. Followed this now for 25 years and book icefishing trips based on this.

There was an interesting article in IN-FISHERMAN magazine discussing this subject a few years ago. Basically what it said was that most trophy fish have been caught during the 3 days on either side of the full and new moon periods, the full moon period somewhat better than the new moon.
I've fish Quinte and other places during these periods with both good success and poor results. For me, stability in the weather patterns is most important. Unstable weather (revolving lows, sudden changes in the weather, severe thunderstorms, big swings in the barometric pressure, etc.) has a tendency to put the fish into a negative mode, and it doesn't matter what moon period it is. The best time to going fishing is any time you get the opportunity, and hope that the weather has been stable for awhile and will remain that way.
