Just some information. Natives, commercial fisherman, activists now appear to be all onside. The objective is fish farms in openwater pens. (source: Vancouver Sun) This unique development will likley be recieving more press shortly. I respect the right to make a living but wish this group well.

It,s the same old story......we mess with mother nature and that spells trouble.
Purple loosestrife, zebra mussels, starlings and sea lampreys to mention but a few introduced species.
Out here on the island I have seen occasional articles about fish farms
and have visited one or two. Sometimes Atlantic salmon, which are the fish of choice for fish farming, escape en mass and enter rivers in the fall (to spawn successfully no one knows yet).
Interestingly, the Americans, who have NO MORE! naturally occuring salmon
runs in the Pacific Northwest (all rivers depend on stocking) are complaining about escaped Atlantics in their rivers. One would think they would be grateful for fish of any sort to try to inhabit their messed up waters??
