I guess we should be careful when releasing a pike!

I was fishing a couple of years ago during the opening weekend with a friend that doesn't fish very much. He caught a pike and I took off his line for him....it was about a 5lber.

He asked me if they bite? Just as I finished the saying "no...I've never been biten!" the darn thing tuned it's head and grabbed me. I was laughing my head off (it didn't hurt) and my buddy had a terrified look on his face and was yelling "I'll hit it with the paddle...I'm going to hit it with the paddle!" while I was waiting for it to release my fingers.

It caused superficial cuts but like they do, it bled like a bugger. Til this day, he's terrified of catching a pike

I wish that was on video...even just the look on his face and frantic yelling he was doing.

Cheers

A few years ago a friend of my wife took us out Musky in Lake St-Francis. This guy was a pro Musky fisherman. Anyway, after fishing for a couple of hours my wife finally landed a 25 pounder. She managed to get it to the boat and I was on the net. With the fish in the net, still in the water, our friend was trying to remove the giant plug from the Musky's mouth. All of a sudden the Musky took a nose dive (into the bottom of the net) with the hook still in its mouth. The last treble hook on the plug ripped across the top of our friends hand and sliced him open. He bled like a hose and needed about 25 stitches. Suffice to say, our fishing trip was over at that point. We haven't been Musky fishing since.
