Coming down Oct 19-21,staying at Merlands.

What colors are good and what technique should i use?

I was there last year but didn`t catch any eyes.

book eye tracker as a guide....you'll learn more than you'll acquire in many years of going up....

at that time of the year, its VERY spotty for big walleye...i'm heading up, but i'm bass fishign, i wouldn't even consider putting a whole trip dedicated to big walleye that early....without the assistance of a guide.

fish finder charters, a sponser of this board, is also a very knowledgable guide in the area....i'd really consider that option.

we do the mouth of hay bay with reef runners [bubblegum color]
east of the ferry to keith shoals with deep tail dancers colors are ;
purpleccent [????spelling] perch color w/orange belly
also use the reef runners purple and bubblegum

What kind of rod should i use?
I have a med spinning rod with 20lbs test,is this enough for trolling?

i use a shimano 6 1/2' med with 12lb test when we troll the mouth of hay bay, long reach and the narrows in the spring and summer
for the fall we use 7' depthmaster trolling rods with 14/6 fireline
and line counter reels but have used the shimano also
when we come up the 15th
i have another depthmaster set up with 20# fireline crystal to try [if the wife lets me use it]
also a trolling guide book as a reference for depth.
seems we are learning more from this board and am only glad to pass on some "stuff" that we acquired .
ask what you may glad to help if we can

A spinning rod will work, most people including myself will switch to a trolling rod for fall fishing. Some use dipsy rods with dipsy divers and others will run lead core line etc. I will be running trolling rods off my planer boards and I am hoping to get out this weekend to see what is happening failing that I will be out during the week and will be pleased to report back.

Yes there are bass in the BOQ and if you want good rainbow action fish in the Trent river in Trenton.

If i use a dispy diver that goes 20' deep and i use a lure eith it that dives 20' will my lure be at around 40' deep???

I did get your email and I will respond tomorrow morning when I check on the prices. In regards to the dipsy divers the usual rule is that you have approximately the same length of line to the lure that is is the length of your rod. If you are using a 8'6" rod then you should have approximately 8 1/2 feet of line from the dipsy to the lure. If you are thinking of putting 20 feet of line then when you reel in the dipsy to the end of the rod you will have 20 feet that you can not reel in and be able to net the fish. When you come up to see us I will be pleased to cover all of this with you and we do have a large selection of dipsy divers as well in 2 different sizes.

I'm sure Sam will cover all you need to know when you go to the store...but as he implied the lure you are using that will go 20' down needs lots of line out I'm sure over 100' of line so it would be impractical to run that much line behind a dipsy.

I started using a slide diver this year that you can run as much line as you want behind it because when it is released it will slide down your line to the terminal end. It is actually pretty cool..much easier to add a longer lead and also much easier to net the fish.

Remember to use braided line with a dipsy. With the stretch in mono you will not be able to release a dipsy it just stretchs when you rip on it and its very hard to retrieve when it isn't released.
