I'm thinking of taking dad out to hunt down some large 'eyes next week. He has never been fishing for them before. I'm wondering if anyone can give me information on the boat launch in Pryner's cove. Is it open to the public, can I park the truck there for the day, is the water level ok for my 17.6 ft Triton,etc..Thanks so much in advance.

Launched there on Friday morning. It is OK for low profile boats (ie: 17ft bass boat). Any larger or longer boats will have some difficulty. A couple of guys from PA tried to launch and all they managed to do was push a couple of boulders back a little further in the lake. Just like Deseronto Launch there is a hump that you will have to go over that has less than 2 ft of water over it. It was a nice sunny day and I did manage to bring in a 6lber, made the day worthwhile.

Wow. 262 views and only one person was good enough to help me out.Thank you Shepard. I guess one more fisherman in the area will ruin the fishing. I'll have to find out for myself.

Hey Outkast,
I don't think too many people use that launch. All those lurkers could be from anywhere. At least you did get some info.

Good Luck & tightlines :) :)

Outkast, I was "lurking" to find out if the launch is usable & I don't even know where it is. Many others may have been doing the same thing.

Hookset,

Pryner's is way out by the "gap". I've wondered how the launch is as well

I would wager that no more three-four people on this board use that ramp. We only saw the first time we fished to the Gap.

Not many travel that far.

Looks like a nice ramp, but that's a heck of distance to drive, when you can launch at the ferry or at Finkles Park in Bath.

Lots of looks and no one knows the area.

Just my .02

Thanks for the responses. If I end up there on Saturday I'll post what the conditions are like.

I managed to launch an 18' deep V at Prinyers on Sunday AM but the cautions indicated in the other response are valid. The ramp itself is a little bumpy and because the water is down you will need to back quite a ways into the water so you will need a good vehicle (we had a Chevy Z71 off road 4x4 and had no problem pulling out). On the way in I travelled the last 100 feet on my trolling motor with the prop just below the surface because of the shallow depth and rock bottom. On the plus side, not many people seem to use that ramp so lots of parking, no hassle getting out and if you want to fish down near the lake it saves a lot of running time and fuel. Good luck!

Many Thx Wiggler for the google map. I come from Brighton and with the low water am just looking for a ramp that is usable and with parking given the high number of boats on the Bay. I am assuming that the Picton ramp & parking is usable but will be full. I usually fish by myself so need something straight forward launch & recovery wise. I am not against driving further if a good launch is to be had.

Thanks Skeeter16. I too have a 4X4 so that won't be an issue. How did you make out anyways?

hookset, there is no dock, and i can't see how you would launch by yourself there.

I too am from Brighton, long drive but shorter than travelling with the boat all the way there and less people at the launch. As of Monday 6 November there was a dock at the launch and 4 guys from Hamilton were there launching at the same time with a 17ft deep V with all the trimmings. I think it was easier for them with rollers on the trailer instead of bunks, they didn,t have to back up as far. Might require a little more manpower to put it back on the trailer.
