you can get 5' of depth per colour, generally.

its VERY speed dependant.

yes i thought it was 5 ft per color, and as for speed, well its for trolling cranckbaits for walleyes,i know in the precision trolling guide, they have several scenerios at speeds between 1-2.3 mph b ut its with 18# leadcore,i spose it will be pretty close with the 27# core,im also going to be using a #1 dipsey,as there are reports of walleyes down deep, some guys are doing very well at 40-60ft deep and they are targeting those deep walleyes on leadcore & dipseys....some guys are having 10+ fish EVERY DAY....as not many guys are going after those deep walleyes, cause most crankbaits will not go that deep....any thoughts on this????cheers

When taking fish at that depth there is a good chance of swim bladder expansion and mortality of released fish. Fizzed or not. Over the last couple weeks I've read a lot of material on this and become aware of the consequences of taking fish from deeper water. If they're smaller fish for consumption then go for it with no problem at all. But those big walleye should be released to spawn and to help minimize your own exposure to contaminants in the flesh.
Even if a fish looks fine and swims under it's own power back to the depths it could still die according to a few studies.
It's tough to say where to draw the line for the sake of the fish.

thanks for the info wiggler, and yes i was aware about the dangers of bringing fish up to quick from the depths,i wasnt sure what the number was i heard around 50+ ft,and a walleye can acually pop...out their bladder, well i dont want that to happen as i dont keep any fish from the bay of quinte anyways,we have in the past like a few resident small 16-20inchers but none of the big spawners thats for sure, and yes they are quite contaminated arent they????....well i thought maybe fish that were 40-50ft down would be ok,to release ,and shouldnt they be ok...ill have to inquire about this some more, but thanks for your info, and ill see ya on the water...cheers :D

you have to figure, a 7 colour setup with a crank is putting you down around 65'.

something to consider. (and thats at around 2.5mph), slow the troll down to below 2mph, and your down 70plus feet of water.

Steve I was told that having a crank on the end does not change the dive curves by a significant amount even with a deep diver. We tested this and found it added only about 5 extra feet. We let out 7 to 8 colours, 35 to 40 ft in 46 to 48 ft of water and the one with 8 colours out ticked bottom. The bottom did fluctuate between 45 and 48 so somewhere in between. But there was no way the cranks were diving 65 to 70 ft and we were using reef runners, tail dancers and manns stretch 20s.

By the way a little intoduction. My name is Don I live in Ottawa. I have been trying to get on this board for a long time but it wouldnt work so finally it is. I am fishing the Bay of Quinte every weekend mainly on Sundays. Thanks Dan for fixing the problem. I am a member of 2 other boards as well, I know some of you know that.

Last weekend I caught a monster sheephead out near the gap and it was one heck of a fight, it actually pulled my board under twice. If you know the sites I am on you can see the pic. Not sure how to post them here, hopefully I will have a decent Sunday this week and have some to post.

Don

P.S. Not trying to hijack your thread fishindevil but I wanted to say something to this thread.

I have no experience with lead core line, however I'm pretty good with photos and internet websites.

Dude, your "avatar" photo is WAY too big! It leaves no space for writing!

My e mail is the same as my user name at hot maill dot com, so if you want, email me, I'll resize your photo for you, and you can re-upload it. Nice fish, though!

Cheers,
Pete

I have just started using leadcore myself and all the research I have done is the same as what Badger Shark had said. Also, the first three colors will take you down approx. 10 ft., then approx 5ft more for each additional color.
