Hi, new member here.

Heading down to the area for the first time next week. We have been talking about it for 2-3 years, so now it's time to do something about it.

Many of the posts I read indicate that folks are pulling their boats out before dark. I have not read much about a night bite.

Anyone shed some light on this for me (no pun intended)?

With the renewed concentration of fishing east of the ferry, there appears to a decline in the night fishery.

Little is being written about night fishing. Methinks, that there are fewer fish in Picton Bay, where many used to fish into darkness. Perhaps they are stilll there but never reported.

Many fishers are travelling to BOQ and are required to return the same day and aren't staying into darkness as they have to hit the road.

My three trips to Picton in late fall have allowed me the chance to night fish and I've had mixed results. Caught a couple of big 'eyes (27" and 30") right in the harbour in town trolling floating sticks.

But when compared to how many fish and bait fish we were marking, the results were poor. A buddy of mine used to swear by fishing at the end of the harbour right outside the hotel, but I've never had any luck out there. For the amount of promise it shows, the bite is never even close.

Never caught anything outside in the bay across from Merland's either.

What I will say is that is right before dusk has been money for us. We caught some beauties just as the sun is about to disappear.
