I'm sure a lot have you have been hearing reports of good ice on the bay. Well we do have good ice in certain areas only anywhere's from 3 inches to 5 inches but these areas are far and few between and the die hard local ice fisherman know what they are doing. I still maintain that it is not a safe bet whatsoever. I know some of you reading this will disagree but remember the bay is full of current and you really have to know what and where you’re going. Case in point a very good customer of mine went out and I said to him I think you’re being a bit premature. He said that he check out in front of his place and he had a good 5 inches of solid ice but there was open water out father then he was going. I told him that that does not matter there will still be some pockets not froze. Approximately 2 hours later he called me and said “yep you were right there are pocket holes" he fell through in about 5 feet of water and got soaked. All is okay but his buddy is not going again until he has better reports.
There are fellows fishing out at the Trent River and all I can say is God be with them. With the watershed being low this year the authorities are holding water back all over. The Trent River is the only river that has any kind of current coming down it on the bay but it is strong enough that it will cause problems.
I know we all are itching at the bullet to get out but hang in there things are getting better. We are still making ice every night but the forecast for the weekend is above zero so Mother Nature is still playing a few games with us yet. Lets all remember with the Christmas season coming are families don’t need a tragedy.
I'll be out checking again in the morning and if anything has ganged my opinion (plus or minus) I will let you all know.
Remember have fun be safe and always bring back everything you took with you. Ron
