Stopped by Moons Bait in Deseronto this mornng to see about ice conditions out from the launch and he said that there was a good 6-8 inches of ice all over so I decided to try my luck in the afternoon. Got out about 3 pm and there was good ice with one hut out near the middle. Fished until 4:45 with no luck. Did see one guy pull out two nice fish and he was about 300 yds west of me. Would of liked to have stayed out longer but sure enough the ice breaker came around the corner of Forresters island and myself and the guys in the hut got out of its path. So be aware that the ice breaker has come through and with the warmer temps expected over the next couple of days I would not be venturing into the middle especially at Rush Bar. Good luck to all be safe.

I stoped in at mass point this AM to see if the ice breaker had been thru yet and I could not see the path where it went thru. I also did not notice the ice breaker at Myers pier so maybe he is having trouble getting thru. I will keep posted if I see anything.
be safe.
Sheldon

Heard a rumour that he is stuck in the ice, no sign of him east of Pointanne this morning. It is a tugboat and not a icebreaker so maybe he wont make it in!

I read that it was a controversial issue in Belleville, giving the tender to a company that had a bad record last year.

Maybe it won't make it all the way, still.

cheers

I think the local retailers should start some kind of petition to forward to the city and see if we can prevent this from happening next year. I am originally from Belleville, but now live in Ottawa. I return every year for the holidays and this will be my the first time since about 2001 or 2002 (I think) that the ice will be relatively safe at this time of year. And now this ice breaker has to come through and screw things up.

Maybe I'll just drag my tinny out and try some trolling down the channel!

I am at Point Anne right now and it isn't this far yet. Although it is getting darker and I can't tell if it is on the east end of big bay. Although I don't see any lights from a boat.

I just checked and it is not near mass point yet. I could not even see it on big bay. Talked to a few guys 4 -6 inches at Rush bar. they fished all afternoon and did not see any fish from anyone in the area.

The tug is in front of Point Anne right now and probably have gone through the narrows by morning. Be carefull as the broken ice may be hard to see in the dark.

Its the City thats getting the bad record not the contractor. The contractor knows what he's doing they just got to let him do it.

I'm just getting in from work, when I drove over the Bay Bridge at midnite the tug was in front of the Goverment Dock aka Meyer's Pier. Big heads up to anyone heading out on the Bay in the morning. Gary

Typical bureaucracy. Maybe, (correct me if I'm wrong here) the common sense approach would be to get the tugboat/ice breaker/cruise ship (whatever they're going to use) BEFORE the ice forms. It's can't be that difficult to have the boat mobilized and be checking the long range forecasts and USE THEIR HEADS. But in the end it all boils down to reality, and we're all aware of the $ingle-focus/lack-of-common-sense mindset of those with 'the power'.

Try again next year City of Belleville... Here's hoping (insert praying icon here) there are no tragedies directly related to this tardy decision-making.

OK, 'Rocket-Rant' over...

Merry Christmas All!
G
