Hi guys - how is the ice at Massauga Point? Is it safe enough to go out there and try?

Also, is there a closer place to Trenton that is safe for some nice size perch?

Thanks

On boxing day morning we checked Massassauga Point as we were going to try to check out Rush Bar, but the ice was not safe at all. It may be possible to go east from there, but I still think it wouldn't be safe. There is too much current there. Be safe...

Thanks Jeff - I was thinking more to the south away from the main flow area. Probably be safer to head in further towards Big Bay, eh?

Thanks again.

Well, away from current anyway. I know that guys are fishing the north shore at Point Anne West. Any current areas lost about 2" or so it seems since the rain on Sunday. So, if you were on 4-5, it may now be 2-3 or less. I hesitate to recommend a spot after the rain we had until I or someone I trust has verified it. Even where there is thicker ice, there may still be soft holes. I am in Toronto at the moment, but if I get back to Belleville in time, I may be out looking around in the morning. Bring your cleats!

Good Call.

I think I'll head north around Madoc and stay on some sheltered lakes instead.

Be careful up there too. I don't have any ice reports for you on those lakes up there, however I do know that they were still open when the bay was frozen. So I don't know what they would be like right now.

I was there on Boxing day and did not even venture onto the Ice. Over at Baileys on the west end of Moira there were 2 hots about 100 ft out sitting in 6 inches of slop. On the east end of the lake by the 2 loons the huts were all in the shallow bay
