Hey Gents,

I have an Aqua-Vu XL underwater camera with DVR. I typically use it on clearer lakes, Haliburtons, Simcoe etc. It's pretty amazing for perch fishing, you really can't beat it.

I tried using it last year on Quinte, with NO luck, it just seems to be too dark or stained. I would have thought with the advent of zebra mussels over the last decade that it would have increased the water clarity. Now, I know the camera takes a bit of getting use to...figuring out the direction the camera is facing, finding your own bait, getting the right depth etc. Maybe last year it was just me trying to work out the bugs and getting familiar with it.

The questions I have is: Has anyone used their underwater camera with much success and do you typicaly have a problem with water clarity on the Bay of Quinte? There is nothing I would rather see than a 10lb EYE wacking my jigging spoon!!!

Any feedback or insight would be appreciated.

Cheers, Hodgey...

it would be awesome to see a 6-7lbs walleye screwing around w/ your bait on camera, then a monster 50lbs muskie come by and eat it with one bite!!!!

I'll let you know this evening. I'm taking my setup (same as yours) out this afternoon for the first time. I'll let you know how it makes out.

I personally purchased a cabellas advanced fisherman because i talked to a guy on shore about the one that he had and was happy with the bay viewing of the action. Now first you must jig first then find it on the camera and i place the camera in front of where i jig about 3 to 4 feet in a hole of its own.The contrast is the big button for viewing the action and find that i had to turn it up full throttle. Not too bad for reasonable price with the US dollar. It also has the 7 inch screen.Hope this helps :D [/quote]

We use our camera all the time . Works well most days but is useless at "prime time" or if there has been a warm spell with lots of run off.

I have used my Aqua View in a few places. As long as there is no current you are usually ok. At Deseronto near the bidge all you see is a silt storm. Same with the Reach. I use it on clear back lakes and you can see a long way. The camera has not been as useful as I thought it was going to be. My FL-18 Vexilar is more useful day in and day out.

had my aqua vu out tonight, at first i thought it was crap but then ia played with some settings, and turned the contrast up. It was windy and seemed to be a strong current. I could see my minnow pretty decent from 2 or 3 feet away ....maybe more. I was in 20 ft of water and look forward to using it during prime light conditions to see how much it improves.

I have a aqua view, I like using it when I'm fishing during the day time or if I'm not getting any hits I'll put the camera down there and more than once there will be a big pike just sitting there, keeping the walleyes from coming around! I don't like to use it during prime fishing times because I tend to jig way to much and screw around with the camera getting the proper angle to see the lures, plus I usually fish with old school fellows which don't believe in any technology!
I bought a ice pod which was I think 20 dollars and it saves me alot of time finding the lures and depth, because it can be a pain in the butt if its cloudy down there.
I've had walleyes laying almost on there sides smelling the minnows and striking the minnows and you wouldn't believe it but you don't even feel it! I've had pike attack the camera, and a perch and a walleye play cat and mouse ever time the walleye would turn its back a perch would come in and strike my lure once the walleye would turn around the perch would scatter this went on for about 10 mins then finally got the walleye!
Overal I believe this is a great way to teach someone how to ice fish plus I learned a bit with using it also.

I like to cut a whole out side my trap about a foot from it and have the camera faceing the current I find this works the best especially if you have a fin on your camera!
Believe me it will help you catch fish! My record is 13 walleyes from 11 to 2 this year out on the bay! It was unbelievable and I caught 13 last year at wellars bay in the same time frame.
I'm taking the day off tomorrow from the bay of quinte since it will be a zoo out there( GOOD LUCK TO EVERYONE) I'm going give wellars I try tomorrow and yes I will be using my camera!
