HERE IS WHAT I SAW, CAUGHT AND HEARD YESTERDAY. WE WERE ON THE ICE AT HUFF'S @ 6:30 A.M. AND FISHED UNTIL 11:00 A.M.. NEVER MARKED A FISH ON THE VEX. MOVED AROUND HOPING TO FIND THEM WITH NO LUCK. THERE WERE 3 OTHER GUYS WHO CAME OUT FROM HUFF'S AND MAYBE 6 FROM QUICK SHORT. DID NOT SEE ANYONE LAND A FISH. BASED ON THE WAY THEY WERE CHANGING LOCATIONS AND STANDING AROUND, MY GUESS IS THAT THEY HAD AS MUCH LUCK AS ME AND MY PARTNER.
I COULD SEE SOME GUYS NEAR SHERMANS BUT NO ONE ELSE ON THE REACH. ICE 8-10 INCHES OF GOOD HARD ICE.
AT THIS POINT, WE DECIDED TO GO ELSEWHERE BECAUSE WE HAD DRIVEN SO FAR FROM THE STATES AND TRIED TO MAKE THE BEST OF THE DAY. MR. MOON HAD TOLD US THAT THEY WERE CATCHING FISH AT THE BRIDGE (SKYWAY). WE HAD NEVER FISHED THERE BECAUSE OF THE UNPREDICTABLE ICE CONDITIONS BUT DECIDED TO GIVE IT A TRY BASED ON THE FACT THAT THERE WERE ATV'S AND SNOW MACHINES OUT. WE WENT OUT AT THE BRIDGE AROUND 2:30 P.M. AND FISHED TIL 6:00 P.M.. I CAUGHT 1 SMALL EYE AND SEEN 6 OTHERS CAUGHT. MINE WAS TAKEN ON A ORANGE/RED SWEDISH PIMPLE WITH 3 MUDS. I DON'T KNOW WHAT THE OTHERS WERE CAUGHT ON. I WAS IN 23 FEET OF WATER. THERE WAS MAYBE 30 GUYS OUT FOR THE NIGHT BITE.
ONE OTHER THING, I SAW FIRST HAND WHY THEY SAY THE ICE AT THE BRIDGE IS UNPREDICTABLE. I DRILLED A HOLE TO FISH AND THE ICE WAS 8 INCHES. MY PARTNER WALKED OUT ANOTHER 20 YARDS AND THE ICE WAS ONLY 3 INCHES. IT HAD CHANGED 5 INCHES IN THAT SHORT DISTANCE.
BE CAREFUL.
HOPE THIS HELPS AND TIGHT LINES TO ALL!
