Quinte Fishing

We fished Huffs Saturday, landed 11 (2 of us) btwn 4 to 7lbs. Morning and evening bite, slow during the day. Fished in 32 fow. The key for us was staying on top of the fish by running and gunning and not getting trapped inside a group of guys...we tried to always stay to the outside of the crowd, this allowed us to hit the fish first as they moved in.

Would loved to have taken pics of all of the fish, but just a hassle getting out of the hut when they are hitting fast and furious. My Dad kicked by butt 7 fish to my 4....(Not including any of the smaller fish, if we include them we probably caught 20 fish).

No Hogs this trip, lost a few really big pigs though!!

Thinking of fishing that area Tuesday looking for info on ice conditions. Thank's in Advance

Ice thickness was thicker closer to shore, however when you ventured closer to the west shore it was thinner. We fished closer to the west shore (long walk), the ice was 5" of black ice and 4" of white ice.

Hey Hodgey,

Nice little set up you've got there. Is that the Clam Scout you have?
Do you have transportation or are you walking?
I'm setting my sights on either the Scout or Pro, it looks like by the way of your set up it doesn't leave much elbow room, but you've used the space well.
It also looks like you've doctored the skirts a little.
I'll end up doing most of hardwater fishing on Lake Simcoe going for lakers and whities, and it's a bit of trek by foot to the deep water, so weight needs to be considered, especially once you start adding the fish finder, camera, gas auger, etc etc.

Hey Fishmore,

I have the "Dave Genz" Fish Trap Lite. I put pipes in the skirt so the wind doesn't blow up the bottom. There is plenty of room, as you can see it's perfect for running and gunning. It's very LITE, so pulling in the snow is pretty easy.

And YUP, I walk!!

I fyou don't mind, what was the rig you were using? The one of your Dad looks like a Williams half and half. Also if you jig with monnows are they the large or small. I know on Lake Simcoe the Lakers bite more using the small minnows. I will be coming up this weekend for the annual hard water fishing and hope to land a few. I was also thinking of trying Belleville. Is this where Big Bay is and where do you go to get there for the walleye. I have never fished west of Deseronto on th BOQ. Any help would be apreciated. Sorry for the change of topic.

Cottager head to Carra's outdoors sports store they can lead in the right direction also get your tackle there.

Thanks Fatpat for the info. I'm hearing the minnows hard getting harder to get because of the change in MNR regs anyone else hear this.
