Spent a few hours fishing Hay Bay approximately
a 1/4 mile out from the Church Ramp. I was
really expecting to freeze to death this morning
with all the -18 predictions. Well, It wasn't cold
at all. The fishing was not so great though. The
perch were hitting like clockwork. Met one of our
site regulars out on the ice. Met TARGA17 from
London. Nice guy. While we were talking I hooked
onto what felt like a small walleye. It was probably the
biggest perch I've ever caught in 12 years of fishing
the area. TARGA17 indicated it was just like the
Jumbos of Lake Simco. We put him back.

Spoke to another local on my walk out. He was
just setting up his ice hut for the season. He talked
about the shad that were in the bay a couple weeks
ago. He said they move in, then out, then perch move
in, then out, then the Walleyes come. His expectations
were that this should happen soon. I hope he is right.

With the reports about the Deseronto Bridge, I think
I may hit that area next. Over the years, I have had
some of my best luck in that area. I was fishing over
3 inches of ice at the time though.

Location: Middle of Hay Bay 24 feet of water
Time: 7 til 10:30
Walleye Count: Zero :(

Good luck, and Thank you to TARGA17 for the Hay
Bay Fishing Tips.

:D hey never fished lake ontario. is the perch action usually good? how are the sizes? ive been fishing lake erie the past two days and we have been slamming the walleyes. no real big monsters but alot of good eaters. pressure crack opened up today and with the 20-30 mph nw winds we will probably lose all the deep water ice . saw acoupe big ones 7-8 lbrs. i released a 7 lber. alot in the 17-22 inch range. a few 14 inch perch in the mix too. fishman644@yahoo.com
