when buying an online license and sportsman card, do they give you a temporary print out version of each? how long are they good for?

After you buy the licence you will have to print out receipt . Keep it with you along with the old card till you receive the new one.

I would think so. It's proof of purchase.

You will get to print a temporary license and the plastic will show up in a few weeks.

True story.......... I have a friend who did his on line the first year they allowed on line buying as soon as he hit send his printer would not work (No Receipt ) a week later he gets questioned by MNR while he was fishing, (Go Figure) anyways he explained this to MNR . the guy gets on the radio and runs a check and sure enough it was in the data bank he paid for his license and was let go It could have been a huge hassle and he could have gotten a ticket and have to go to court but that was not the case since the MNR was able to contact the home office via radio, this happened on a weekday had it been the weekend apparently the home office is closed lol he would have gotten a ticket and have to fight it out in court lol my advice is make sure your printer works before doing on line buying lol

I wonder if you could get away with a picture of the temporary license on your cell phone if you printer wasn't working?

Many cards are on phones now. An electronic outdoors card may be just around the corner.

Used to be if you had a license but didn't have it on you the fine was double not having one at all.

I bought a fishing licence online last year. The receipt printed but the licence didn't. I thought that a plasticized version of the license would follow in the mail but no.

Now this is just the license, not the Outdoor Card.

So the idea is that you carry a full size piece paper in a water environment.

I called the MNR help line and was told they couldn't help and I'd have to go to Service Ontario. Went to Service Ontario and they said I'd have to go to an license issuer.

I went to a license issuer and they couldn't print me a copy because the MNR charges them for everything they print so I'd have to by a new license.

I decided to fish with my receipt. Was checked by the MNR and was given a warning and told to get a license, a receipt won't work.

Called the MNR help line again and this time the woman said no problem. Apparently, there was a fault with the system that wasn't allowing licenses to be printed, just the receipt.

They sent me a plasticized copy but they also told me that normally I would have just had the paper copy for the year.

Now I just go to an issuer and get the plasticized license.
