I have never used a tip up but thought I would try one on my next outing. Are there any tips from the experienced anglers that would shorten the learning curve?
The tip up I was given has black braided line on it. Probably around 30lb.test. Do I need a leader on it? How do do I rig it?
Can I use the tip up in one hole and jig in another on the BoQ? (I know you are allowed two lines on the lake in the summer but not sure about the hardwater season).
Appreciate any advice.

Cheers

Others may disagree but I would leave it at home nobody
I know has had much or any luck fishing a tip up on the bay and if yÖu look around out there u won't see many people using them jig two rods instead you'll catch more for sure............my 2cents

Agree, tip ups have no place for Walleye on the Bay of Quinte. the Walleye in the Bay are looking for a very active presentation.

Cheer, Hodgey...

Thanks guys. I'll concentrate more on my jigging and leave the tip up home.

Cheers

two lines are allowed on the hardwater and they can be a combination of tipup and/or jigging rod. I prefer two jigging rods myself

Isnt it odd that the tip ups just dont get it............ often ill pop two holes but im not that cordinated to jig two rods at once lol........ anyways ill drop one rod down with a small jig and a lively minnow while i use the other rod to jig away. ive cought fish in the still rod many times but saying that i figure my sucess rate is like one out of 10 on setting the hook home, and bringing in the fish. I guess if i had to guess it is my jigging action from one rod calls the fish in and often the second rod (Still fishing) will take a hit , im guess putting a tip up 10 foot away just dosnt get the same responce, down here in NY we can use up to 5 tip ups i think, and your name and phone number has to be writen on each one.

Hey Grizzly:
I agree with you there. I tried this morning jigging 2 rods and I felt like a fish out of water. Guess I'm not coordinated enough. I concentrated on one rod, spent 4 hours out in the cold at Massassauga Point with not even a nibble. My fancy new flasher didn't show them laughing at me though so I guess they're just not around (or I can't interpret the flasher).
Thanks a bunch for your help guys. As always the knowledge you share is greatly appreciated.

Cheers

I tried jigging two at once at Trenton s couple of weeks ago...ok I caught
1 sixteen inch 'eye but found whenever I pulled up to check my line I snagged the other line because of the current. :? ( if anybody needs to know I am right handed and caught the 'eye with my left hand, 1 bite 1 fish batting .1000 ) ... Used 2 rods again at Deseronto last week for half the time, had no bites and went back to one rod. I find with 2, I lose concentration and fear not being ready when I get THE strike (they have been few & far between this season so far for me)...
