Quinte Fishing

I like the pics. Dan sent in, but I was wondering:
With the majority of spawners on shoals and shores, do the local conservartion authorities that manage tributary water ways (Moira, Napanee rivers ect) operate their water levels to encourage healthy spawn, or, do they simply use it as flood control for their designated area.

Excellent question! I am impressed (repressed when it comes to getting the ladies to cooperate...lol).

This would be a good one to ask the Quinte Conservation Authority directly. I believe that the primary mandate is flood control and to ensure a healthy amount is available for agriculture. I have not had to hear about this area in a long, long time, thus am slightly out of tune when commenting on this local area.

I am aware that in some areas that this is a bone of contention, given that if there is no happy balance between interests, fisheries and aquatic life invariabley suffer.

There are some extreme examples of water management in Canada like the Kanannaskis R. in Alberta with Alberta Utilities. What once was a River within a watershed, that held an extremely large strain of cutties....now is a mere trickle...or a flood.....both are bad for the fishery, with this strain believed to now be.....extinct.

lol.....I am still impressed with this question. There needs to be lots more like this.
