Quinte Fishing

Dec 14th Rocks… The best day out in years! We landed 12 walleye, only 1 under 10 lbs, mostly 14 and 10’s. On the way back to the launch at 2:40pm Ron hit a monster (we thought at first it was a sheep-head as it surfaced right away)… Please see video! Picture does not do it justice, it weight in a whopping 16lbs (took three wieghts to verify), length 32.5”, girth 22”. The most fascinating thing about this walleye is the blue tip tail & blue dorsal (the dorsal you can’t really tell in the video or picture), mostly found up north I thought. Caution – video has some questionable language, I do apologize! I need some comments on the blue tip, has anyone else seen this???

We got a 12.5 pounder on Dec 5 also with blue tipped tail.

Nice fish, congratulations on the 16 pounder. Based on the video, you strayed a bit from the pack in Picton Bay and it payed off, good for you. We spent a good part of the day from Merlands to the Cement Plant and only got 2, but they were 11+. Too bad the ice looks to put an end to the season this week.

We typically stay away from the "pack", our success rate seems to be higher. I apologize for the amateur video, but it seems to get the message across! Water temp was 33 degrees at the launch and 30 at Thompsons, ice fishing is in site!

I noticed this summer a bunch of the resident fish (mostly smaller) had blue on them as well.... no idea what it's all about!

Looks like today or tomorrow is the last day for softwater with most of the ramps froze up already and the temp about to plummet for the next few days so a great way to close out the season, no doubt! Awesome Job!!!

that's a good'en!

The blue what your talking about I read in an Issue of In Fisherman last year is a slime which has no relation to the blue walleye. This slime is found more in the northern lakes of Canada and the United States. The scientist believe that walleye are producing this blue colour in there slime as a sun block to protect them from the U.V. light that's penetrating the water. The Americans actually want people to report sightings of this. If you like more information PM me and I would be more than happy to give you everything off the Magazine.

its been around for years here on quinte, you see that more in the cold wheather temps like the,winter,and im sure alot of you folks have seen this blue tipped tail when ice fishing these quinte eyes.
