We've returned home from a heck of a fun stay at Merland Park.
Friday night found us on the water at midnight, started a troll toward the cement plant and along that shore without a hit and nothing on the fishfinder. From there we trolled to the island in behind the red buoy
and the fishing was better, managed an 8lber on a black n silver HJ.
Our buddy Rob nailed a 12.5 lber close by on the same lure and finished
the tourny with second place. HE HAS A NEW 9.9 4 STROKE HONDA
FOR SALE...$2500 takes it!

Second night we caught more fish in the same area. I used a Smithwick
rogue and landed a 10.6lber, my personal opening day best. 2 years ago
that weight was good enough for 6th place but not this year, too many
11's to squeak in.

Many thanks to Merland Park(ing lot) Look forward to dropping by in the
fall for the "big bite"

Jimbo, appreciate the report and congrats on the prize for your crew. We were actually in the Kiwanis Derby headquarters (also weigh-in) in Trenton when your big fish was called in. What a coincidence. There was a good number of 10llb. plus fish weighed in between 12:30am - 2:30am, and I think the largest fish at that time (12.82lbs.) was a Trent fish. The fishing really slowed down after about 4am though when that Northeast wind picked up. From 6:30am - 8:00am, only saw one net over the side and there were lots of boats. Just a note, around 10pm when I was waiting for my fishing partners to show up, saw a walleye about 14 - 15lbs. roll right in front of me whilst standing on the docks on the west side of the river below Hwy 2. That's one huge walleye still out there swimming.
Looks like they'll be lots of fish around for the next couple weeks.
Tight lines all.

I think the fishing will be great for the next few weeks as well. We had
a really large eye roll in front of us too, great to see the big tails. You know they're big when they blow water out their spouts. LOL
Just wish the BOQ was a little closer, it's a 6 hour drive for us 1 way.
I envy my buddies in the Trenton area!

I heard on the radio this weekend that gas was 49.9/L in Toronto. Something about trying to lure people back into the city because of SARS. Our trail home is to the east (Quebec) so I never got to chack it out. Did anybody else hear or see anything along those lines?

Jimbo
